Summary

The governors of Ellingham Primary School wish to appoint a highly organised and self-motivated clerk to join this school. The clerk is accountable to the governing board, working effectively with the chair of governors, and with the headteacher and other governors.
The clerk to the governors will ensure the smooth running of the governing board; preparing agendas and meeting papers, taking accurate and well-constructed minutes, giving administrative support, keeping records and up-to-date information on policies and date of reviews, and providing procedural and legislative advice to the governing board. They must have excellent organisational, communication and ICT skills.
The clerk should have an interest in education, be reliable, proactive, efficient and well organised. The role will require good listening and interpersonal skills. You should be professional, friendly and approachable and able to deal with confidential matters.
This is a part time role, covering six full governing board meetings and 12 committee meetings per school year. Meetings are held in term time. Full governing board meetings are usually held at 6pm on a Tuesday evening while committee meetings usually take place on a Tuesday at 6pm or a Thursday at 8am. The clerk is also expected to attend all relevant training events and briefings.
The clerk is paid through payroll for hours worked on a monthly or termly basis and receives an included amount for leave. Hours payable include the whole meeting process (emails, calls and agenda preparation; writing up and distributing minutes) and attending regular training events. Estimated hours for the current year total approximately 150 hours.
