Summary

The post holder will in conjunction with the Head of Midwifery, Director of Midwifery and Clinical Leads for Inpatient Maternity Services to provide Professional and Managerial leadership across the maternity service at PRH, ensuring a high quality service for maternity care, within available resource. The Matron will be an integral member of the management team supporting the Division in the delivery of key performance targets. As an experienced practitioner the post holder will be expected to create an environment of continuous quality improvement and professional development ensuring that the delivery of neonatal care is regularly reviewed and that service developments are implemented when necessary. The post holder is responsible for the day to day management of staff within the inpatient Maternity services on a 24 hour basis. The postholder will provide professional leadership, advice and support to Midwives, doctors and support workers, acting as a clinical expert and as a resource for all staff within the service. The postholder will contribute to and lead where appropriate, innovative service development for the benefit of babies and their families, ensuring that midwifery practice remains patient focussed and evidence based. The postholder will ensure that maternity care is delivered by competent and confident practitioners according to Trust policies and procedures, through clinical supervision. The postholder will ensure that Health and Safety regulations, legal and personnel requirements regarding working conditions for staff within the Maternity Service are adhered to. The postholder in partnership with Lead Obstetrcian will be responsible for achieving Clinical Governance and Risk Management targets within Midwifery. The postholder will continue personal professional development to maintain their professional Midwifery registration. The post holder will work closely with theHead of Midwifery to implement strategies for workforce planning. The postholder will support the Head of Midwifery to provide expert Midwifery advice at Trust level, regarding incidents, complaints and legal issues.
