Summary

The surgical chief registrar will be attached to the Division of Surgery and Cancer. The job will be split with 60% clinical time, allocated to the specialty of the candidates experience, and 40% as a leadership and management role. The leadership role will be across all 5 sites enabling an understanding and development of skills within healthcare management. Successful candidates will be expected to undertake projects in areas such as service improvement, morale, workforce wellbeing and sustainability. Chief registrars benefit from access to a bespoke development programme provided by the RCP, which runs from September 2024 to June 2025 and comprises five 2-day modules that post holders are expected to attend. Key areas of responsibility Providing a bridge between senior clinical leaders, managers and the wider trainee workforce to improve communication, engagement and morale Involvement in workforce planning and improving the deployment of trainees to meet service needs and improve morale Service improvement project to improve patient safety within surgery and cancer. Developing and maintaining up-to-date project documentation, and producing periodic progress report This post is for ST4/5 equivalent to do 60% clinical within the department of your specialty plus 40% managerial within the division of surgery and cancer. The surgical division chief registrar will work with the DD of surgery and DDME on a number of projects. The chief registrar will also attend departmental and divisional management meetings to gain an understanding of management and the wider social, political and economic influence health care delivery
