Summary

The Data and Analysis Directorate plays a key role in ensuring that the decisions taken in the MoJ – by Ministers, Operational and Policy Leaders and those on the front-line - are informed by first-class evidence, analysis and built on the best data.

The Data Improvement Programme for both the MoJ and the wider Criminal Justice System (CJS) is an integral mechanism by which we will deliver against the vision set out in the MoJ’s Data Strategy and the data ambitions of the Criminal Justice Action Group. The potholder will be a unique position to lead and shape the way that the MOJ best uses data to transform our delivery and ensure we are a truly data led department.

This post holder will act as Programme Director for the Data Improvement Programme and Head of the MoJ’s Data Improvement Team. They will directly lead delivery of a range of programme workstreams, whilst also being responsible for virtual leadership across the broader MoJ and CJS data community, to ensure that we collectively maximise the impact we make.

Provide leadership across the wider data community to deliver better alignment and maximised value from the range of data projects and advocating for data solutions and opportunities with users and stakeholders. Provide leadership across the wider directorate of over 600 people across a range of locations and functions. Help with setting out a longer-term data strategy and input to the design of an enduring and sustainable data function across both MoJ and the Criminal Justice System.

• Programme Director for the MoJ Data Improvement Programme setting direction and overseeing a range of workstreams in line with the MoJ Data Strategy. Ensuring effective delivery in a cost effective, timely and coherent manner, and demonstrating the impact of our workstreams to a wide range of data users.
• Leadership and Management of the Data Improvement Team in the MoJ with responsibility for approximately 45 staff, £7m budget, across a range of team functions, including the Programme Management Office, Data Dissemination, Data Governance and Culture, HMPPS business partnering team and overseeing the implementation of our data ownership model across MoJ.
• Lead the cross-Department Criminal Justice System Data Improvement Programme, working in partnership with Home Office, Crown Prosecution Service, NPCC, HMCTS and HMPPS to convene data leaders in order to strengthen data governance, sharing and quality across the system and lead demonstrator programmes to show the value and impact linked data can achieve for decision making.
• Foster productive relationships with a range of stakeholders and enabling teams to deliver data improvement, including digital and technology teams, planning and performance, statistics and analysis, policy and operations functions. Advocate for data solutions and opportunities and work on pragmatic solutions where constraints are found.
