Summary
Our Deputy Director, Data Architecture is the Head of the Data Architecture profession. They work with the Data specialists across the MoJ to deliver appropriate operational and analytical data architecture for our services, including data models and new Artificial Intelligence models that may support these services.
The Deputy Director, Data Architecture works within the Chief Technology Office leading data architects, integration architects and data engineers to develop clear technical plans, documentation and roadmaps for data architecture. They sit on technology and data governance boards to assure that products and services adhere to data standards and principles.
This position is at the heart of ensuring that our approaches to data design, management and operation are seamlessly integrated with and aligned to our business processes. Working with the Chief Technology Officer and Chief Data Officer, it involves setting the standards and principles, as well as making key decisions that shape the MoJ’s future direction.
They own the overall data architecture, data standards and data catalogues for our critical services including how data is modelled, structured and connected. Working with other CTO Deputy Directors and the CDO function, they create roadmaps and engage across the MoJ and wider Government to communicate technology and data architecture best practice. They act as the escalation point for data architecture issues with the goal of reducing duplication, risks and costs for the MoJ.
The Deputy Director, Data Architecture provides mentoring within teams and provides peer support to other architects.
They have a good understanding of a broad range of technologies. They understand the business processes and how these map to technology solutions. They are able to converse easily with and translate between non-technical stakeholders and technical practitioners. This role is critical to understanding our data, reducing data complexity, improving data quality and data insight.
Responsibilities
Acting as Head of Profession for Data Architects and providing leadership for Data Architecture.
Providing ownership of data architecture artefacts, including principles, standards, models and patterns.
Assuring data governance against data standards and principles, ensuring our services have documented data approaches including data models and data integrations.
Acting as advisor, escalation point and authority on data architecture.
Creating and managing the central data catalogue, working with the Chief Data Office.
Supporting creation and updating of the Data Strategy, aligned to the Technology and Justice Digital strategies.
Leading the design of new innovative approaches to data, such as artificial intelligence data models.
Working with the Chief Technology Office and Chief Data Officer, creating architecture blueprints for operational and analytical data management.
Working with other Architects to encourage knowledge sharing and collaboration and engaging across MoJ and government to share best practice.
Guiding and influencing technical choices, and seeking out opportunities for digital transformation, and
Supporting the recruitment process, including taking part in recruitment for both Data Architects and other professions.
