Summary


An exciting opportunity has arisen for a full-time housekeeper to work within our emergency department at Peterborough Hospital. Our team need someone who is organised, self-motivated and enthusiastic to join us to support the delivery of safe and effective care. You will need to be passionate about working within a team, and have a dynamic and forward thinking approach to service improvement. An emergency department housekeeper’s role is to support the clinical staff by maintaining and restocking all areas of the department, encompassing ordering stock, stock rotation and liaising with the materials management team. You will also be expected to maintain high standards of organisation in the department by ensuring the department is kept tidy, clinical equipment is maintained and cleanliness levels achieved by liaising with our domestic staff. You will be expected to work shifts 7days per week, including bank holidays.

The post holder will work as an integral part of the ED team, working with the nurse in charge of the shift. They will be responsible for the co-ordination of all patient facilities services in the Emergency Department and ensuring a clean, safe and comfortable environment. The main elements of the role are ensuring the delivery of cleaning, stocking equipment, ordering stores, catering, together with other specified tasks to meet individual patient needs as determined by the sister/charge nurse. The post holder will be required to work closely with contractors and support service departments. They will monitor quality standards, report deficiencies and appropriate action taken to the nurse in charge.

To identify any problems with general cleanliness and report to the nurse in charge. To ensure general and specialist equipment, specific to area of work, are cleaned, stocked, logged and in good working order as per cleaning policy. To ensure the department is safe and tidy at all times e.g. remove clutter, tidy notice boards, signage etc. To maintain upkeep of patients’ cubicles. To transport equipment, consumables and written information as required. To maintain and update paper-based records and information as required. To receive and pass on information to others, maintaining confidentiality. To assist with training of staff involved with department housekeeping services to achieve required standards. To be aware of any new food hygiene standards and changes to waste categorisation etc. To ensure patients have food and drinks, where necessary taking into account special needs and medical requirements. To ensure people have any assistance they require to eat and drink by placing food within reach, encouraging patients to eat where appropriate. To take responsibility for stock rotation and discarding out-of-date food. To ensure patients whose fluid intake is not medically restricted have access to fresh water. To ensure all defects are logged, reported, recorded, monitored and closed down as appropriate. To carry out regular equipment monitoring in accordance with procedures. To clean beds / mattresses after occupancy and make beds as required. To ensure the patient’s space is respected. To maintain the safety of people’s property and belongings. Ensure all department daily checks are completed and signed for. Working practices and relationships. To respect the privacy and dignity of patients whilst carrying out housekeeping duties.
