The Clinical fellow posts allows a fantastic opportunity for a senior registrar who wishes to develop a career in Urology.Through the duration of the post it is envisaged that the successful candidates will gain skills in a whole breadth of procedures, work with the Consultants, other doctors in training and nursing team providing specialist urology services, specifically delivering outpatient clinics, carrying out surgical procedures and completing the related administration.

Undertake research and audits related to specific urology subspecialty (oncology, andrology, stone & benign) .

Work as part of the wider urology team (Junior Doctors, Consultants and Nurses) provide general urology inpatient, elective and on call duties.

All new colleagues can expect to receive a warm and friendly Wirral welcome from the very first time they make contact with us. We are described as “competent and caring staff” by our patients.

Wirral University Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is situated on The Wirral peninsula which has a stunning coastline and beautiful countryside surroundings, with great activities for its residents.

We are one of the largest and busiest acute Trusts in the North West of England, comprising of the Wirral’s only Emergency Department. We provide a high quality range of acute care services and employ over 6,000 staff, who serve a population of approximately 400,000 people across Wirral, Ellesmere Port, Neston, North Wales and the wider North West footprint.

We have approximately 855 beds trust-wide and our financial turnover is in excess of £337m.

The Wirral is easily accessible with excellent transport links including motorway, train, bus or ferry and within easy reach to the major cities of Liverpool, Chester and Manchester as well as neighbouring North Wales.

At the more junior level you would get great benefit from the short stay and day case lists that occur in majority at the Clatterbridge site, as well as the experience of more complex procedures at the Arrowe Park site. The provision of a consultant of the week will allow excellent training and support, particularly for emergency work, and by the end of a year we hope to have transformed you into an excellent candidate for specialist training.

A more senior candidate would benefit from exposure to the more complex operating found at this University Hospital. We provide high volume uro-oncology including Robotic Prostatectomy, Cryotherapy, Radical Cystectomy and pelvic exenteration, Radical and partial Nephrectomy and penile cancer. We also provide stone surgery and our benign service includes many treatments for male LUTS including TURP, bipolar, HOLEP, PAE and Urolift.
