Do you want to be responsible for formulating and implementing the Councils Net Zero Programme, Climate Change Strategy and Net Zero Action Plans? If so, this role is an exciting opportunity for you.

The Environmental Services Team are looking to recruit an enthusiastic, standalone Net Zero Programme Delivery Officer to; deliver on the council’s ambition for its operations to be carbon neutral by 2030 and support communities, partners and businesses in the district to be carbon neutral by 2050. This role is a fantastic opportunity to lead, and project manage major climate change and net zero projects.

Reporting to the Environmental Services Manager, the post holder will develop, monitor, and review policies and strategies to address crucial environmental, resource management, and climate change issues to ensure that the Council remains compliant with relevant legislation and best practice. This role will be pivotal in driving the Council’s climate change and net zero ambitions forward.

As a Net Zero Programme Delivery Officer, you will work with local, regional, and national sustainability partners to maximise joint working opportunities to reduce carbon emissions within the district, and create, maintain, and review the Council’s policy on climate change.

For this role we believe your starting point is:

• Demonstrate experience of undertaking work relating to climate change and net zero.
• Desirable but not essential experience of managing and leading a team.
• A relevant degree in an Environmental subject or relevant equivalent experience.
• Be able to work on your own initiative and communicate effectively at all levels with excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Personal qualities that will help you to succeed in this role include:
• Excellent communication and organisational skills
• Project management skills.
• Excellent IT skills, including Microsoft word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and social media.

Whilst initial training will be office based, there is an opportunity to be home based for up to two days a week.
