Summary
KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Undertake the management & development of the Knowe Community Garden Auchinleck
Undertake the management of staff and volunteers employed in the garden In conjunction with the Development Manager.
· Produce and implement an annual/seasonal growing calendar & action plan based on current and potential sales of plants fruit and vegetables
· Produce and implement a curriculum and calendar of short courses for schools, public and community groups
· Produce an annual garden maintenance contract to offer to the public
· Assist the Development Officer in the costing of all services on offer to ensure best value.
· Ensure the social garden is maintained to a level which is attractive to the public and assist the board in achieving its plans for enhancing the facilities on offer.
· Identify and successfully submit landscaping/gardening tenders, ensuring ACDI and the Garden become a successful commercial and sustainable organisation
This individual will lead a team of staff, volunteers, and employability placements; with responsibility for:
· Monitoring the site and plant health on a day to day basis
· Supporting teams of staff, volunteers and local people
· Negotiating with suppliers and local growers
· Ordering stock and equipment
· Ensuring that plants are correctly tended
· Understanding and coping with seasonal peaks and troughs
· Overseeing site health and safety regulations
· Dealing with general administration and site security
· Manage sales to the general public
· Attend various meetings, to gather information and gain knowledge.
· To prepare written summaries and formal reports that track legislation and emerging practices.
· The post holder will ensure work activities are complaint with external, statutory and regulatory obligations, performance and financial targets.
· Assist the Development Manager and Board of Directors in the achievement and ongoing development of the 5 year Development and Action Plan
· Compile a personal Action Plan for those aspects of the Development Plan for which you are responsible
· Assist the staff under your charge in the creation of individual action plans related to their respective roles
· Provide progress reports to the Board of Directors, Funders and Partners as required
· To carry out other duties and responsibilities within the specific scope of the post
and as may reasonably be directed by the line manager.
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Essential: HNC Horticulture, PA1, PA2, PA6, Spraying qualification.
Desirable: HND Horticulture, First Aid, Health & Safety, Garden Landscaping.

EXPERIENCE:
Essential: Significant relevant occupational experience within the horticulture industry.
Desirable: Experience in landscaping/garden design Experience in plant retail.

SPECIALIST KNOWLEDGE:
Essential: Knowledge of operation of basic Horticultural machinery. Assessment in the workplace.
Desirable: Knowledge of plant pests and diseases Knowledge of indoor plant cultivation.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Essential: Ability to teach staff and volunteers Strong communication skills. Ability to devise and implement short medium and long term action plans.

OTHER:
Clean current driving licence Ability to work flexible/seasonal hours
