Summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a part time Band 5 Physiotherapist to join our highly-regarded Long COVID service. The small team includes the Band 7 Occupational Therapy Lead. The service was set up in 2021 in response to the Government’s request to provide assessment, treatment and support for adults continuing to present with symptoms several weeks after having contracted COVID.

The post is one year fixed term / secondment. This is a new position, with a rehabilitation assistant previously being in post.

The team provides advice and support to help patients manage fatigue, breathing disorders and other physical and mental health symptoms associated with Long COVID. The team has strong links with neighbouring Long COVID teams and contributes to a national research programme which informs our understanding of this new disorder. There are strong links with the community neuro rehab team, respiratory care team, and Richmond Talking Therapies.

The service is based in a modern and well-resourced facility in the heart of Richmond. You will be seeing outpatients as well as home visits. Sessions are one-to-one or in groups, and can be actual or virtual, as clinically indicated.

The Trust offers excellent opportunities for continuing professional development, and is committed to clinical excellence and audit.

CAR OWNER/ DRIVER is recommended. A competent cyclist would be considered.

Interview to be conducted on 08 May 2024.

Triage and prioritise new referrals, and book in appointments with patients

Assess and engage with patients to deliver Long COVID supported self-management programmes virtually or face to face

Provide education, advice and support for patients and carers, individually or in a group setting

Participate and flexibly assist team lead in the wider service needs and development

Community healthcare is unlike any other part of the NHS. It’s personalised care that helps people to retain their independence. It’s the NHS at its best and the difference you make is truly tangible.

Our colleagues often describe us as a family, and we know how important that sense of belonging and support is when you start a new job. Our preceptorship programme is second to none hence the award and logo. It’s simple - happy, engaged staff provide better services. In 2018, we were named ‘Best Place to Work for Employee Satisfaction’ by the Nursing Times. The same year, we won the Workforce category at the HSJ Awards. In the latest NHS Staff Survey results 2020, we had the best response rate amongst community trusts nationally.

We are the top community trust in the country on the theme Quality of care for the third year. We had the highest percentage of staff who felt they are able to deliver the care they aspire to and are satisfied with the quality of care they give to patients or service users.
