Summary


An exciting opportunity has arose for Patient Services Assistants on Ward 31

Ward 31 is a unit that cares for patients with a Haematological/Oncological malignancy. It's a place where the opportunity to make a real difference in patients and their relatives lives.

Full time and part time positions available. The patient services assistant role will involve working as part of an integrated team, guided by local and trust policy and procedures. To carry out non-nursing duties as delegated by the registered nurse, using own initiative within the level of competence expected for the role. To assist and support members of the multi professional team in order to provide a high standard of patient centred care whilst demonstrating care and compassion whilst ensuring that patients needs are met.

The PSA will focus on supporting the nutrition needs of patients, this will include:

They will take on the role of ‘nutrition coordinator’ at mealtimes liaising with nursing staff to ensure that patients are sat out or up and ready to eat. The PSA will ensure that patients have hand hygiene wipes available and offer help where needed, ensure the correct cutlery and aids are available and that the ‘red tray’ system is implemented.

Assisting patients at mealtimes and helping them with food where appropriate.

Working alongside nursing staff to promote ‘first a drink’ helping patients with drinks to support hydration.

Completing menus for all patients, offering help where required and ensuring that correct menus (including special diets, snack menus, finger food etc.) are ordered.

Completion of food and fluid charts, escalating concerns to nursing staff.

Keeping the nutrition boards up to date.
