This is a fantastic opportunity – spanning from design through to full operation, and you’ll be involved in all of it! As the Senior Hydro Mechanical Engineer, you’ll be responsible for managing the E, C&I Engineering on the upgrade of Cruachan Power Station on units 3&4.

This is a permanent role, based at our Cruachan Power Station. You’ll be reporting into the Senior Project Manager and leading a team to deliver critical engineering upgrades. You will be building on the shoulders of giants who constructed the original site back in the 1960’s!

About the role

This is a significant investment project that will involve the replacements of generators, turbines and main inlet valves.

As the Senior Hydro Mechanical Engineer, you will ensure that all of the electrical, control and instrumentation works on this project meet the relevant standards to ensure the new units will deliver the required performance.

You’ll provide guidance in the development of specifications and project technical support for the supporting contracts

You’ll also be providing authoritative technical advice PUWER, PSSR, LOLER and other legislative and Business requirements with regards to turbines, valves, pumps and associated mechanical equipment.

Drawing on your experience, you’ll be responsible for financial control of capital expenditure within budget area, including, preparation, and developing expenditure requirements for the Business Plan, and ultimate delivery of projects as per the Procurement Plan.

About you

Essentially, you’ll be qualified (Honours Degree) in a relevant engineering discipline (Mechanical) and ideally hold Chartered membership of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (or equivalent).

You’ll demonstrate your extensive relevant work experience in the Mechanical Engineering industry and hold NEBOSH or IOSH certificate in Health & Safety or equivalent.

Communication and Collaboration is key, you’ll have highly developed communication and negotiation skills with the ability to form effective working relationships and persuade others to help them solve problems!

Leadership and a strong teamwork ethic will be crucial to this role, as well as the passion to challenge and develop your own knowledge, skills and innovation!

This is a permanent role, based in Cruachan. We understand that even though this role may not be in your current location, here at Drax we are able to support with relocation.
