An opportunity has arisen to join the team of over 30 Dietitians in the York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, as a Band 6 Dietitian specialising in Surgery and Critical Care.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, experienced and proactive person to support our Surgical and Critical Care Dietetic services.

We are looking to recruit a Dietitian with experience in these areas, or a Band 5/6 who is keen to gain experience in these specialities.

This post sits within a supportive Dietetic department comprising ofother Dietitians and Dietetic Support Workers. You will be part of the Surgery and Critical Care Dietetics service across the York and Scarborough Hospital sites. Clinical leadership is provided by a Band 7 Advanced Clinical Specialist Dietitian and Professional Lead. Operational support is provided by the Team Manager and the Senior AHP Operational Manager.

The post holder will be a key member of the Surgical, Critical Care and Nutrition multi-disciplinary teams at York. There will be opportunities to lead on dietetic service development in the clinical areas of bariatric surgery, critical care, acute pancreatitis, intestinal failure and post-surgical patients.

You will be primarily based at York Hospital, but will be required to travel to Scarborough Hospital too.

The surgery/critical care dietitians deliver a comprehensive service to patients in a wide area of clinical areas and across different clinical pathways, including;
• patients on a bariatric surgical pathway
• post-surgery
• critical care
• acute pancreatitis
• intestinal failure
• patients on a head and neck cancer pathway
• patients on an upper-gastrointestinal cancer pathway

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate skills and experience in oral, enteral and parenteral nutritional support. Training will be provided as required to support assessment and treatment of patients on particular surgical / critical care pathways.

The department places a strong emphasis on supervision, training and education, including:
• peer support and regular clinical and managerial supervision
• well established programme facilitating the training of dietetic students from Leeds Beckett and Hull Universities, including utilising the peer-assisted learning model
• delivery of a variety of rolling training programmes for other healthcare professionals across the Trust, relating to nutritional care
• opportunities to participate in audit, research and quality improvement projects
• development of leadership skills within all roles

The ability to transport yourself across the locality during the course of a working day is required.
