Summary


The Gender Identity Clinic (GIC) is the largest and oldest gender clinic in the UK, dating back to 1966. We accept referrals from all over the UK for adults with issues related to gender. We accept referrals for patients who are aged 17 years and older onto our waiting list. Patients will not be offered an appointment before their 18th birthday.

We are a multi-disciplinary team, including psychologists, psychiatrists, endocrinologists, speech and language therapists, and nurses. We work together to provide holistic gender care, focusing on the biological/medical, psychological and social aspects of gender.

The Gender Clinical Lead Nurse will hold clinical leadership and management responsibilities, supported by the Gender Specialist Lead Nurse and Clinical Director. Professional leadership is provided by the Chief Nursing Officer. The role will have line management responsibility for all core nursing roles within GIC, ensuring appropriate clinical supervision. The postholder will also be responsible for the nursing pathway development, working in tandem with the Clinical Director and the Gender Specialist Nurse Lead.

This role gives a fantastic opportunity to develop a nursing workforce within the service to enhance patient care and quality.

Undertake generic multi-disciplinary assessments of the health and well-being.
• Manage a caseload of patients whilst working as part of a multidisciplinary team (defined or virtual), delivering individualised and personalised direct patient care.
• Coordinate the triage referrals into the service and conduct clinical harm reviews for patients on the waiting list.
• Provide guidance to staff, patients, their families, and carers on pathway navigation, in line with patients’ care plans.
• Deliver nurse-led clinics and liaise with internal and external stakeholders including carers, families, and other professionals.
• Triage case load according to agreed protocols and working practices and review dormant cases.
• Provide a seamless, high-quality service from referral through to assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and review, referring to other specialists as required.
• Using expert practice take clear and concise history from patients by assessing their health and well-being, complete documentation (paper based and electronic systems). Ensuring all entries are accurate, legible, and timely and in accordance with Trust standards.
• Take an active role in risk assessment, supporting the implementation of strategies to minimise risks. Ensuring incidents and near misses are reported and managed as per Trust Policy / Procedure.
