Summary

I‘m Jade, a first responder in the First Response Service (FRS). I have been in the team for 1 year now. I trained as a mental health nurse and chose FRS because I was keen to support people experiencing a mental health crisis and help them access the right support and services they need. We work with such a diverse range of service users and I have really developed my assessment and clinical risk assessment skills since being here. I am grateful that we have autonomy as professionals, but also have a fantastic and experienced team around for support.

We work across the county with people of all ages, providing 24-hour access to mental health services for people who identify or have been identified as being in a mental health crisis. If you are successful, you will be part of a pioneering and award winning team. This role allows you to work closely with other community agencies e.g. police, ambulance services and local authorities to develop a short-term contingency plan for people presenting in a mental health crisis.

We work in shifts to provide 24-hour support, so you’ll be working: 08:00-20:00, 11:00-23:00, 20:00-08:00.

If you are successful, you will work shifts providing both telephone triage and community face-to-face assessments for individuals experiencing a mental health crisis. You will be expected to provide brief clinical risk and mental health assessments, formulations, and short-term contingency plans for those both calling into the service via 111 option 2 or those referred by other professionals.

You will need to use a range of brief solution-focused interventions to empower patients, carers and their families in problem solving and decision making. You will need to have excellent communication skills and assessment skills and be able to make safe and appropriate plans. You will need to understand the resources offered by other agencies and work closely with them to ensure patients are able to access the support they require.

*We would encourage applicants to make contact and arrange a visit of the service prior to applying, so you get an insight into what the service provides*
