Summary

Deliver enhanced care to children requiring high dependency care. Undertake senior nursing responsibilities in the absence of the senior sister. To undertake the senior nurse coordinator role. Undertake the role of the senior nurse bleep holder when required. Assess the health related needs of the child/young person and their families, to identify and initiate steps to deliver effective and evidence based care. Assess, plan, implement and evaluate evidence based nursing care plans, being proactive and flexible in their approach. Deliver direct care to the child/young person in your care in accordance with the Trusts process and NMC guidelines. Work collaboratively and co-operatively with the multi-professional team to meet the needs of the child, young person and their families. Work across paediatrics and Neonates to support patient safety. To achieve competencies to support this and act as a role model to other staff. Promote and facilitate timely and effective discharge working collaboratively. Be involved in the delivery of new strategies which impact on the clinical environment and assists in promoting the nursing contribution. Provide management and organisation of the clinical area. Facilitate and participate in clinical supervision within practice. Contribute to the implementation and monitoring of Audits and research based studies to evaluate the effectiveness of care interventions. Examine and challenge current practice, identifying those aspects of care which require improvement. Formulate a plan of care with the child/young person and their family and continually reassess and evaluate the child/young persons condition and the effectiveness of care delivered. Work collaboratively with staff in the planning of care for the child/young person. Work in partnership with the child/young person and their family and the multi-disciplinary team to enable them to maximise their health and independence, utilising resources appropriately, offering guidance and support as necessary Undertake skilled therapeutic nursing interventions. Maintain and utilise up to date knowledge of current nursing issues/practices Assist in the development of practice, protocols and guidelines, which are evidence-based. Demonstrate clinical judgement and the ability to articulate why decisions are made. Ensure correct usage and storage of equipment, in line with ward guidelines. Organise clinical workload to ensure that staff are competent and confident to care for the needs of patients. Assist in systematically monitoring the delivery of nursing care Promote independence through relevant teaching and support of the child/young person and their families. To have an in depth knowledge of child protection procedures and the ability to support junior staff in the management of vulnerable children and young people in line with agreed local policies and procedures.
