An opportunity has arisen within the Medical Care Group for a General Manager post to lead a plurality of specialties within the Care Group at University Hospitals Dorset (UHD). Portfolio to include Older Peoples Services, and Acute Medicine

The Medical Care Group is a large and dynamic team. It is currently compromised of the following specialties:
• Gastroenterology and Endoscopy
• Respiratory Medicine
• Diabetes & Endocrine
• Dermatology
• Rheumatology
• Neurosciences
• Cardiovascular Sciences
• Older Peoples Services
• Acute Medicine
• Emergency Care

The post holder will be required to work across all sites within UHD and to be part of the General Management Out of Hours On-Call Rota.

Discussion regarding the post and secondment opportunities are welcomed.

development to master’s level (post grad
certificate/MBA/MSc) or equivalent senior
management experience

Base Location: Royal Bournemouth Hospital or/and Poole Hospital.

Expectations of the role:

The purpose of this role is to lead the Directorates in ensuring the provision of high-quality patient services that are clinically safe, delivered cost effectively and meet the Trust’s Values, priorities and performance targets.

The post holder will lead the Directorates' Triumvirate senior teams (comprising of a Clinical Director and Senior Matron in each Directorate) and will also work closely with the wider team to develop the Directorate operational plans as part of the Care Group annual business planning process. Key objectives will be the strategic and operational delivery of agreed quality, performance, workforce and financial plans, including a delegated Cost Improvement Programme.



UHD are investing in services across the Trust, with many being transformed and developed following merger and the New Hospital Programme.

In some cases this means that a services may move site this year or next, either temporarily or long term. Recruiting Managers interviewing for this role will be happy to answer any specific questions that you have at interview.

The services within directorate portfolios are delivered predominantly at The Royal Bournemouth Hospital and Poole Hospital, with a smaller proportion delivered at Christchurch Hospital and in other community/hospital sites across Dorset via Service Level Agreements.
