Location: Northfield Academy, Aberdeen
Duration: Fixed Term, 35 hours per week

Roles that require PVG Membership

Please note that with effect from 1 April 2023, where a role requires PVG membership, candidates will be required to meet the cost of the PVG membership. This applies only to roles with a full time equivalent salary of £30,000 and above. (Teaching roles and jobs at Grade 11 and above (currently £30,727 per annum / £15.97 per hour)

The Council will pay for the PVG membership cost initially, either £18 for existing PVG scheme members, or £59 for non-members, and this cost will be deducted from an employee’s first FULL month’s salary payment.

job purpose/about the role

To provide a range of supports to children and young people with social, emotional
and mental health needs and their families, on an individual / group basis, to
promote and support access to learning opportunities to enhance their achievement and attainment.

The post holder needs to hold as a minimum:

SVQ Level 3 or equivalent qualification in an appropriate discipline e.g. social care,
health, education

PVG membership for Regulated work with Children and / or Protected Adults or
willingness to obtain prior to a formal offer of employment being made.


The post holder will be expected to:
Ability to provide evidence of SSSC registration or eligibility.
Have the ability to travel throughout the city.

The postholder is able to demonstrate:

• Proven track record of being able to develop positive relationships with
children and young people with additional support needs
• Experience of direct work with children, young people and their families
• Ability to identify needs of individual children and parents and put in place
strategies to address these
• An understanding of child development
• An understanding of trauma-informed practice
• Good communications skills, including experience of report writing and
evaluation of practice
• Experience of developing play / learning opportunities for children and young
people
• An understanding of GIRFEC
• Evidence of a willingness to maintain appropriate CPD and training relevant to
the post for self and others
• Awareness of the relationship between high quality services and the
promotion of children’s learning and development
• Ability to promote an inclusive ethos within settings
• Ability to support colleagues to enable them to meet the needs of children and
young people
