This is an ST3/IMT3+ level Clinical fellow post to join the Older People Services (OPS) department at the Royal London hospital. The successful applicant will work predominantly within the Trauma and Perioperative Older People Services (TPOPS), under the supervision of TPOPS consultants.

This is a highly desirable opportunity for a trainee looking to pursue a career in surgical liaison or orthogeriatric working in a leading Major Trauma Centre. The focus of the role would be to provide geriatric liaison support to major trauma and surgical specialty teams with outpatient perioperative clinic and high-risk anaesthetic MDT experience.

There would also be opportunity to gain experience throughout Older People Services department in general geriatrics, outpatient work and acute frailty if desired. Responsibilities would include participating in the local education programme and teaching junior doctors, medical students and the wider MDT.

There would be an expectation to complete a quality improvement project or research project, or to contribute to the development of a clinical guideline.

The post includes weekend working covering OPS wards, on a rota of 1 in 5, with no overnight cover.

This post is suitable for candidates wishing to gain experience and training in geriatric medicine whilst pursuing ST3 training or as an out of programme experience (OOPE) for a trainee looking to pursue a career in surgical liaison or orthogeriatric.

We are a multidisciplinary team working to improve health and wellbeing of older adults admitted to the Royal London Hospital and in the community of Tower Hamlets. The post will be based at Royal London Hospital, where we have a 52 bedded acute geriatrics ward. The acute frailty team provide care to newly admitted patients in the acute medical unit.
