Summary

Role summary To assess and treat patients within designated specialist clinical area. To work flexibly according to service needs To assist Senior Therapy staff in service development and the provision of a quality service. To take responsibility where appropriate, for junior therapy staff and students and delegate duties as necessary, providing appropriate level of support at all times. Under the direction of supervisor and other team members assist with specified areas of service provision as appropriate Key responsibilities Establish and manage a clinical caseload as appropriate to the service To work collaboratively with other clinicians, including medical and nursing staff to influence service development and ensure quality of care is delivered To provide clinical education and training to other health care professionals Influence research and professional development for self and others Where appropriate participate in clinical rotations across all areas of the Walton Centre Therapy service as directed by Therapy Managers. Clinical Responsibilities To undertake physiotherapy assessment, clinically diagnose and implement agreed treatment plans if appropriate including the routine treatment of complex patients in a manner that respects peoples privacy, dignity and individuality. To supervise and advise Junior Physiotherapy Staff and Student Physiotherapists on the management of clinically demanding patients. To rotate, where, appropriate within the band 6 rotation programme. To take part in 7 day working rotas, weekend working and late shifts where appropriate. To be a member of the multidisciplinary team and actively participate in M.D.T. meetings To facilitate effective internal and external two-way communication with patients, carers and all other Health and Social Care Professionals regarding all aspects of patient care. To provide and receive complex information that requires empathy and reassurance, communicating where there may be barriers to understanding. To record and report findings appropriately following the standard procedures used by the department including the use of any relevant electronic recording systems to maintain high levels of written/verbal communication. To share skills and knowledge with other disciplines and patient/carers. To liaise with hospital/community based staff as appropriate to ensure continuity of treatment and provision of equipment/adaptations Clinical Governance Staff must attend all mandatory training as specified in the Corporate Induction and Mandatory Training Policy Undertake appropriate mandatory training in infection control and comply with all Trust Infection Control policies relevant to the post, particularly with regard to the hand hygiene policy To ensure compliance to all Trust Risk Management, Research Governance and Infection Control Policies and Procedures and abide by the Standards for Better Health and essential standards of safety and quality Be aware of and comply with their data protection and confidentiality obligations under Law and through Trust Policy Undertake appropriate Information Governance mandatory training set out in the Corporate Induction and Mandatory Training Policy Comply with the explicit and implied terms of their contract of employment, or other agreement signed to handle Trust information Take responsibility for managing their own health and well being All staff must co-operate in the Personal Development Review process Staff to comply with departmental / organisational procedures and guidelines. Staff to ensure that any furniture, equipment or building in need of repair is reported to the correct authority as necessary Staff to abide by the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy standards and code of professional practice. Staff to participate in Clinical Audit as appropriate in each speciality area. Staff to ensure treatment offered to patients are based on the best available clinical evidence, under the guidance of Physiotherapy Team Leaders / ESP`s / Clinical Specialists. All staff are responsible for ensuring that they are part of providing a quality service for patients that is safe, effective and personable. Staff are responsible for familiarising themselves with local and trust documentation that relates to quality and improving the patient experience. All staff whether Clinical or administrative should be aware of their Data Quality responsibilities; They must complete paper based documentation and enter computer data accurately and use it correctly; Ensuring they endeavour to comply with the standards as described in the Trusts Data Quality Policy, Information Security and any other associated documentation Abide by relevant Code of Professional Practice Training and development To actively seek out clinical supervision and take responsibility for ensuring continuation of the process .To complete annual appraisals and provide a personal development plan To maintain professional links with Therapy colleagues regarding wider professional issues Maintain professional links with relevant professional and charitable bodies at local and national level through organization of and attendance at relevant meetings/conferences To actively participate in the professional development program of the therapy service To contribute to the training programme of medical staff, other health professionals and carers.
