Job Title: Cook
Salary Range: £22049.04 (FTE) £8938.80 (Actual based on 15 hours per week)
Hours of Work: Flexible working 10 – 15 hours a week Wednesday, Thursday and Friday starting after 9.30am, finishing by 3.30pm. These are negotiable.
Reports to: Deputy CEO
Job Summary
To be responsible for cooking breakfasts, snacks and meals at Zink plus baking. To work alongside and support volunteers.
Functions/Responsibilities
• To produce good quality meals and snacks.
• To work with volunteers and support them to improve skills and confidence where necessary.
• Use available surplus food to create and follow recipes in order to reduce and prevent food waste.
• Cleaning up the kitchen space after cooking each shift.
• To rotate stock to prevent waste.
• To maintain good standards of health and safety and food hygiene in the kitchen.
• To properly store food items in the fridge, freezer or larder.
• To buy required ingredients as a last resort.
• To promote the eco-café and Zink on social media and at events.
• To support the deputy CEO to develop the eco-café and increase income (which may mean more hours become available).
• Any other relevant and reasonable duties tasks as directed by the deputy CEO.
Competencies (Knowledge, skills and abilities)
Specific Skills:
• Cooking skills – able to create recipes.
• Able to support individuals to develop skills.
• Basic IT skills.
• Interpersonal & communication skills
• Able to keep records.
• Good standard of English and maths.
Other required attributes:
• Commitment to working within an equal opportunities policy
• An ability to work sensitively and non-judgementally with people with differing needs and backgrounds
• Willingness to undertake training as appropriate to develop role
Qualifications & Experience:
• Any catering/cooking qualification level 2 or above (or equivalent experience)
• Food hygiene certificate level 2 (If you have relevant experience but no food hygiene certificate, Zink will arrange training, you can do this before interview, please contact Zink if you need this training).
Experience:
• Some experience of working within a catering kitchen
• Some experience working in a team
Supervisory responsibilities
None, but occasional mentoring may be required.
