We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated individual to work within the Critical Care Unit at Southport and Formby District General Hospital as a Clinical Fellow. The clinical duties of the post are within critical care unit and involve working on a full shift pattern, supporting the non-anaesthetic resident rota.

The Critical Care Unit based on the Southport and Formby District General Hospital site, provides Level 2 and 3 care for a general ICU population, as well as a Postoperative Critical Care Unit (POCCU). The unit is currently constituted as 18 critical care bed-spaces (funded to 11) which can be used flexibly. The department is actively engaged with the management of deterioration within the hospital and has critical care outreach over 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS trust is a recently formed organisation, which brought together St Helens and Knowsley NHS Trust and Southport and Ormskirk Hospitals NHS Trust. One of the Critical Care Units is located at Southport and Formby District General Hospital. The appointee will participate in the non-anaesthetic resident rota, providing support to assess and managed critically ill patients who require high dependency (level 2) and/ or intensive (level 3) care. Although the duties will be principally based on the Southport site, the appointee may be occasionally expected to work on the Ormskirk site. In it not anticipated that travel to other sites within the trust is expected within the role.

The successful candidate will be expected to:
1. Participate as a member of the team supporting the non-anaesthetic resident rota on the critical care unit at Southport and Formby District General Hospital
2. Participate in clinical governance, audit, quality improvement and research activity within the department at S&O
3. Support the S&O department in making the most efficient use of the resources available, thus be prepared to work flexibly and deputise, if appropriate, for absent colleagues and undertake additional duties in occasional emergencies or unforeseen circumstances

The Secretary of State has approved the partnership between St Helens & Knowsley Teaching Hospitals and Southport & Ormskirk Hospitals.
