We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated individual to work within the Anaesthetic Department at Southport and Ormskirk Hospitals as a Clinical Fellow in Anaesthesia. Previous experience working and/or training in anaesthesia is desirable but not essential.

The duties are based at Southport and Ormskirk Hospitals and the appointee will be expected to work across both sites and may occasionally, when required, be expected to travel between sites It not anticipated that travel to other sites within the trust is expected within the role.

Southport and Formby District General Hospital has 5 major theatres, an Accident and Emergency Department, an Intensive Care / Coronary Care/ High Dependency Unit and the North West Regional Spinal Injuries Unit.

Ormskirk District General Hospital has 7 Major Theatres, a Paediatric A&E, Delivery Suit, Maternity Theatre and a Diagnostic Treatment Centre.

Other Services provided: Acute Pain Service, Pain Medicine Clinics, Spinal Injuries, Community Dental Anaesthesia, Epidural Service for Maternity, Pre-admission Assessment Clinic

The trust believes in supporting personal and professional development. Opportunities to develop clinical knowledge and skills, as well as portfolio development, tailored to the needs of the successful candidates, will be provided.

The appointee will participate in the non-anaesthetic resident rota, providing support to assess and managed critically ill patients who require high dependency (level 2) and/ or intensive (level 3) care. Although the duties will be principally based on the Southport site, the appointee will be expected to work across both sites and may occasionally, when required, be expected to travel between sites

The successful candidate will be expected to:
1. 1. Participate as a member of the team of dedicated medical, nursing and allied healthcare professional staff, to provide anaesthetic services as needed, across Southport and Ormskirk Hospitals
2. Participate in clinical governance, audit, quality improvement and research activity within the department at S&O
3. Support the department at S&O in making the most efficient use of the resources available, thus be prepare to work flexibly and deputise, if appropriate, for absent colleagues and undertake additional duties in occasional emergencies or unforeseen circumstances
4. Be available, exceptionally, for irregular commitments outside the normally rostered duties, which are essential for the safety and continuity of patient care.
5. Be familiar with and comply with the principles expected by the GMC, as outlined in “Good Medical Practice”. Thus, agree to maintain their professional responsibilities, including full and active participation in the trust appraisal process.
