Summary


Our Children’s Unit at Ipswich Hospital are looking for a Phlebotomist to join our friendly team.

This is an interesting and varied role requiring a compassionate person with excellent communication skills and the ability to work under pressure.

You will have recent clinical experience in Phlebotomy ideally within a Paediatric environment.

You will collect blood samples directly from patients by venepuncture (if undergoing training, the collecting of blood samples will be supervised).

You will communicate with all Children and Young People of varying needs and their families.

You will accurately identify patients and label samples accordingly.

You will be required to perform duties throughout the Children’s Unit and maintain records in relation to activities carried out.

To engage with the Child Health Play Team to support Children/Young people with distraction techniques and advocacy of those with additional needs, where therapeutic play involvement is crucial

To work as part of the multidisciplinary team within Children Outpatients, to ensure appointments are managed effectively and in a timely manner

The work of this service brings staff into constant contact with human body fluids, tissues and hazardous chemicals. This may include blood, pus, urine, faeces, and respiratory secretions.
