Emergency Department Activity Coordinator

Fixed Term: 16 months

Part Time - 28.12 hours per week

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Emergency Department within the Royal Cornwall Hospital for someone seeking to expand their experience in a busy / challenging department.

The role will require you to provide a co-ordinated service between the Emergency Department (and all its staff), Ambulance Service, and the rest of the hospital; monitoring the patient’s journey and keeping the Site Coordinating Team/hospital managers up-to-date with performance within the department.

You will be expected to work with the team to provide a co-ordinated service between the Emergency Department and the rest of the hospital, monitoring the patient’s journey, keeping the Site Coordinating Team and hospital managers up to date with performance times within the department. The post holder will be required to work on their own initiative with minimal supervision.

This post will involve 11.5 hour shifts on a 24-hour rota, including days, nights, weekends and Bank Holidays.

To work with minimal supervision monitoring the situation in ED and keeping the hospital managers, the service lead, the consultants and nursing staff in ED and all concerned parties within the hospital informed of the ever-dynamic situation in ED.

To have a clear understanding of the performance of targets in the Emergency Department and monitor activity ensuring communication and escalation of drops in performance.

To monitor and highlight patient waits at set intervals within the department and to endeavour to avoid any unnecessary time delays for patients.

To interact with staff on the wards, making them aware of patients waiting and to facilitate beds appropriately as quickly as possible.

To assist patients where possible in helping to improve their ED experience,
managing occasional challenging situations.

To provide an interface between ED nursing, ED clinical and ED reception staff in order to liaise with other hospital areas and specialties.

To be responsible for liaising with other members of the multidisciplinary team e.g. medical staff, psychiatric nursing service, social workers, occupational therapists etc.

To track patients whilst in the department in line with Trust policy.

To ensure relevant documentation i.e. case notes, ED CAS cards and any other relevant Trust documentation are taken to reception staff promptly when the patient is admitted to the ward ensuring accurate times recorded on the computer system.
