Community Mental Health Nurse - Band 6
Full-Time 37.5 hours per week
Coventry Community Mental Health Team
Based at Swanswell Point, Stoney Stanton Road, Coventry
Do you want to be part of a supportive, forward thinking, positive and dynamic community team?
We have a vacancy for a Community Mental Health Nurse, who would like to join our large team that works across the city of Coventry. The team works with service users with psychotic and non-psychotic illnesses and we are based at Swanswell Point in Coventry City Centre.
You will receive regular support and supervision from the Management and Leadership team. Ensuring that staff are well supported is important in our team. We also welcome opportunities for staff to develop and this will be discussed throughout your time with the team. We encourage staff to utilise their own initiative in order to aid their own development.
As a Band 6 nurse in the team, you would have a variety of responsibilities.
These include:
Supporting non-nursing staff with relevant clinical issues.
Supporting the running of our well established clinics, and promoting healthy lifestyles for our patients
Supporting our duty desk for urgent patient enquiries
Being part of triaging and assessing new referrals
Line managing and professionally supporting peers and junior staff
Providing a unique nursing perspective on the complex needs of our patient group
The caseload is complex and diverse, and to support our staff and service users, we utilise the Flexible Assertive Community Treatment (FACT) and Recovery models to deliver multi-disciplinary responsive shared care, as the work is often unpredictable.
This allows staff to utilise the full range of skills and expertise in the team to support with their day to day work, so that they are never managing a complex situation alone and our patients receive the best care. A working knowledge / understanding of these models is preferable and will be assessed at interview. We are also developing skills in management of forensic cases and developing our use of standardised assessments to support this work.
The team share one large open plan office with other services, therefore have regular team events and developments to support a positive working atmosphere and collaborative working.
At Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership NHS Trust (CWPT), we deliver a wide range of physical, mental health, learning disability and autism services, and are proud to serve communities across Coventry, Warwickshire and beyond.
We put ‘people at our heart’; this ethos is at the centre of everything we do and how we do it. We care for our staff and colleagues as much as they care for others and offer a wide range of benefits and development opportunities.
These include:
• generous annual leave entitlement which increases during your time with us
• excellent learning and development opportunities, including apprenticeship frameworks, distance learning, internal training, coaching and mentoring, and much more
• salary sacrifice schemes for lease car/ vehicle, Cycle to Work, home and electronics, gym membership and more
• discounts with a range of retailers, restaurants and entertainment venues through our Employee Assistance Programme and NHS discount schemes
• wellbeing support, including an in-house counselling service, external helpline and more
• staff networks and support groups
We’re always on the lookout for people who share our passion for improving the lives and wellbeing of people in our community, as well as our values of compassion, collaboration, excellence, integrity and respect.
We are looking for enthusiastic individuals who can work confidently on their own as well as supporting the team. Good communication and problem solving skills are essential, as well as knowledge of severe mental illness and the challenges this brings in daily life. You also need to be a driver with access to a car that can be used for business purposes. We also are looking for people who can demonstrate the Trust’s vision and values in practice, and are motivated to be involved in innovation and service development.
The successful applicant will work alongside a dynamic, supportive multi-disciplinary team including a large number of other nurses, psychiatrists, support workers, occupational therapists, social workers and psychologists to deliver recovery focussed interventions in the community. This includes key working and generic roles in the team such as new patient assessments and duty, as well as specific nursing tasks. There is also potential to support in the running of our well established, well respected physical health and wellbeing, clinics as well as group and individual interventions, such as CBA.
