TOOLMAKER, PRECISION MACHINIST, CNC TECHNICIAN – GRADE 6

£32,333 - £37,100 pa

An amazing opportunity has become available at the Detector Development Manufacturing Facility in the Department of Physics at The University of Liverpool. We are looking to appoint a time-served, skilled person who will be based within our facility which supports the Department’s world leading academic research programme, through the development and manufacture of parts for state-of-the-art scientific instrumentation for experimental physics. We are a very well-equipped facility benefiting from both conventional and leading-edge CNC machine tools, along with traditional and advanced inspection/metrology equipment allowing us to produce very interesting components.

The successful applicant will have a good CNC programming knowledge, preferably using Heidenhain along with modern CAM offline programming skills or a strong desire to develop these new skills and techniques.

This is a research and development environment where high precision and quality of output is required. Our components are unique in design and to the most exacting tolerances and dimensions, your competency in self-inspection is critical.

You need to be able to work alone and within a team. You will work with technical and non-technical personnel and be open to both offer and receive advice and direction. Working together in our collegial environment is key to our success.

BTEC Higher Level (or equivalent qualification) or extensive relevant professional experience required.

The University has the right to close the vacancy early if it is deemed that there have been enough applications received.
