Summary

Winchester School of Art is proud to be one of the UK’s leading art Schools and part of the world-renowned University of Southampton, a founder member of the Russell Group of research-intensive universities. Our research-intensive environment and international student body provide a rich ground for interdisciplinary thinking and making at the nexus of art, science, technology, and culture.

Department of Design

The Department of Design comprises activities across communication design, advertising & branding, and design management & leadership. New provision in areas such as product, industrial, and environmental design is in development. The Department supports practice-based and scholarly research, with notable strengths in social design, design strategy, and SMART design.

About the role

Key to this role will be maintaining the school’s reputation for innovative academic content whilst keeping the design management & leadership curriculum and its delivery fresh and engaging.

As researcher and educator, you will be required to lead on the delivery and assessment of specific management and design leadership topics at both undergraduate and postgraduate level.

The role is about teaching from the diverse perspectives that are essential to inclusivity. This will combine with the need to foster valuable industry contacts and the creative insight that will inspire our students, enhance our offer and appeal to a growing international cohort.

About You

You will be active in the broad area of Design Management and Leadership whilst also providing expertise and research capability to some of the following areas:

• User Experience (UX) and User Interaction (UI)

• Human-centered Design practices & theories

• Service Design

• Sustainable Design

• Strategic Management

• Product Management

Knowledge of the interface of digital technologies, interdisciplinary approaches and collaborative practice would be particularly advantageous, and compliment the Departments research and knowledge base.

You will demonstrate a defined research portfolio pertinent to the field, including burgeoning areas of interest; offer pathways to high quality research; contribution to postgraduate research supervision; and evidence engagement with research funding applications/projects and external research communities. The School welcomes high levels of research collaboration and a keenness for interdisciplinary work is an advantage.
