Summary


An exciting and rare opportunity has arisen to work at Yeovil Foundation Trust as our Senior Electrical Engineer.

You will be providing advice and support to the in-house maintenance team, contractors and capital projects while ensuring compliance and safe working are fully adhered to and supporting the Estates emergency on call team by participation in the on call Engineers rota.

Simply Serve Limited provides the specialist healthcare Estates and Facilities, healthcare Sciences and other specialist support services at Yeovil District Hospital. It is a wholly owned subsidiary company of Yeovil District Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

To manage the provision of Electrical Engineering Services, ensuring that these are safe and available for their intended use, and that the Trust complies with all relevant statutory and regulatory requirements.

To manage maintenance of all lifts and piped medical gas pipeline systems.

To ensure that the Trusts estate complies with Health Technical Memorandum’s (HTM’s), Codes of Practice, The Health Act, Care Quality Commission and meets patient and service needs.

You will be working as part of the in house maintenance team where you will be expected to work within the Trust values of Kindness, Respect, Teamwork, Everyone Everyday.

You will be a senior member of the Estates team where you will be expected to provide help, advise and support to the Estates team, including our team working in the community and work with the all the trusts various teams to ensure a safe environment for Patients, visitors and staff.
• Support the Trust, Maintenance team & contractors by offering specialist advice and guidance
• Ensure that the permit to work system is used correctly and issue when required
• Perform work including activities which are complex and/or non-routine.
• Responsible for fault finding and repair maintenance on a wide range of engineering plant and equipment.

Fire alarms, electrical installations, emergency generators, heating and ventilation, Building management systems, pumps, compressors, motors and their controls
• Oversee and monitor all electrical engineering installations, services, systems and work activities ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, NHS guidance, health and safety, standards, codes of practice, regulations and in particular the Electricity at Work Regulations.
• Advise the Maintenance Manager on all aspects of electrical services and engineering systems ensuring compliance that those activities are carried out in the most cost effective and efficient way either through directly employed labour or external contract. Management of Contractors and specialist service contracts in connection with electrical services, systems and equipment.
• Develop and manage documentation systems including policies, procedures, registers, log books and maintenance records within areas of responsibility.
• Responsible as ‘Authorized Person’ for the Trust’s High Voltage Electrical System HV as defined in HTM 06 - Electrical Services and co-ordinate other ‘Authorized Persons’ for transfer of responsibility.
• Responsible as ‘Authorized Person’ for the Trust’s Low Voltage Electrical System LV as defined in HTM 06 - Electrical Services and co-ordinate other ‘Authorized Persons’ for transfer of responsibility
• Responsible for the maintenance and modification of Fire Alarm and Detection Systems ensuring compliance with HTM 05 and Firecode.
• Manage and monitor Alarm Systems for critical fire, medical gases, plant and electrical system alarms.
• Responsible as Authorized Person’ for Lifts as defined in HTM 08, Lift Regulations and LOLER regulations for the maintenance of all passenger and goods lifts and all other lifting equipment, ensuring safety and compliance.
• Oversee the maintenance of Bedhead services as defines in HTM
• Carry out duties for registration with the National Inspection Council for Electrical Installation Contracting (NICEIC).
• In conjunction with the Maintenance Manager arrange appropriate training for operational, support, hospital staff and contractors on the Trust’s electrical systems.
• Provide professional / technical advice and best practice guidance to Trade staff for engineering systems and equipment.
• Carry out condition surveys on electrical installations and systems including the monitoring and recording of electrical load profiles at regular intervals and provide reports for plant replacement.
• Carry out electrical engineering services design for small delegated estates schemes including feasibility studies, budget costs, option appraisals, pre- tender estimates, preparation of specifications, schedules of work, sketch plans and working drawings.• Project manage delegated estates schemes ensuring projects are delivered on time within budget and to the necessary quality standards.
• Act as Estates Technical Lead on capital project teams.
• Provide technical direction and brief external Consultants in connection with capital schemes to ensure that the integrity of existing systems is not compromised and compatibility maintained with existing engineering infrastructure.
• Participate in the Health and Safety processes and act as First Aider for the department as defined in the first aid at work regulations.
• Implement, monitor and review planned preventative maintenance (PPM) processes for electrical and other services to ensure that the services operate to optimum reliability are delivered in the most cost effective way.
• Actively participate in the operation of the Estates / Facilities management system including completion of all paperwork required of the scheme. (Including completion of all job dockets and time sheets).
• Have the ability to prioritise and plan own workload utilising the Trusts FM management system mobile data, for which appropriate training will be given.
• Obligation to undertake training where necessary to learn new techniques, specifically in relation to specialised testing and maintenance routines.
• Possess the ability to communicate and liaise with all levels of staff on possible technical matters regarding essential maintenance.
• Be able to instruct others on aspects of own work relating to original trade, including other trades
• To take part in the maintenance Engineers on call rota
