We are hoping to find an enthusiastic clinical or counselling health psychologist with an interest in physical health conditions which could include bariatric service, gastroenterology and type 1 diabetes. The post holder will join a new team of psychologists providing a specialist clinical health psychology service to people who are receiving care from Royal Berkshire Hospital in these areas. The Clinical Health Service works as part of integrated healthcare teams alongside consultant surgeons and physicians, dietitians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to provide a multidisciplinary approach to assessment and intervention. There may be the potential to contribute to the development of services over time.

This is a full time fixed term (12 month) contract. We welcome applications from people seeking part time hours, or with interest in one specific area of clinical health psychology. Secondment opportunities can be considered for internal candidates.

As part of this role with the Clinical Health Psychology Service, the post holder will work across one or more of the RBH Bariatric, Diabetes and Gastroenterology Services and may be required to:
• provide screening and specialist psychological assessment, as part of a multi-disciplinary team
• offer individual therapy for individuals across the patient pathways who may benefit from psychological support.
• offer advice and consultation on clients’ psychological care to other members of the multi-disciplinary team.
• provide group sessions alongside other healthcare professionals.
• offer advice, consultation and teaching on psychological theory and practice within physical health context to other health professionals in the multi-disciplinary team.
• liaise/work with other services e.g. adult mental health teams, offering healthcare to individuals on the relevant care pathways;
• be involved in supervision of assistant and trainee psychologists, as required.
• contribute to service evaluation and development.

There is also an opportunity to take part in CHPS weekly team meetings, including business meetings, complex case discussions and CPD.

The “must haves” for this role:
• Post graduate doctoral qualification in clinical or counselling psychology (or equivalent for those who trained prior to 1996 or for those who completed their training overseas) which provides eligibility for Chartered Membership of British Psychological Society (BPS); and Registered and accredited with the Health Care Professional Council (HCPC) as a Practitioner Psychologist
• Knowledge and skills in psychological work around long term health conditions, ideally including gastroenterology, bariatrics and/or type 1 diabetes
• A passion for working in clinical health psychology
• Experience of multidisciplinary working in physical healthcare setting, ideally including gastroenterology, bariatrics and/or type 1 diabetes
