The remainder of the time spent on-the-job learning and developing knowledge and skills. Where required, healthcare environment specific training will be provided.

The recruited candidate will start a 4 year apprenticeship qualification September 2024. On successful completion, the role will become substantive against the full job description. You will be required to achieve the Apprenticeship Standard and End Point Assessment at the end of your apprenticeship.

An assessment at Derwent College must be passed for an unconditional offer of employment to be made.

As a Trainee, you will work with a trained engineer on planned and reactive maintenance, repairing electrical equipment, installations and improvements. These tasks will be undertaken without supervision once qualified.

As trainee to the full role of a Band 4 Craftsperson, you will be paid at Annex 21 of the Band 4 pay rate. This means you will be paid the equivalent of the following hourly rates, on a full time, salaried basis.

Year 1 - £10.42 per hour (£20,373 per annum)

Year 2 - £11.12 per hour (£21,753 per annum)

Year 3 - £11.12 per hour

Year 4 - £11.12 per hour

Complete - £12.86 per hour, salary £25,147 per annum

You will get a pay rise as the National Living Wage increases year on year and, if relevant, any change to the Band rate due to NHS pay rises.

The successful applicant will be supported through an apprenticeship to allow them to attain the appropriate knowledge, skills and experience to become a fully qualified and competent Electrical trade's person. The apprenticeship scheme is run in conjunction with an apprenticeship training provider, with additional supplementary specialist education provided to ensure the applicant is supported through a high quality training programme. The apprenticeship will normally take a period on 4 years dependant on starting qualifications and academic achievement.

The post holder is part of a multi-disciplinary team responsible for maintaining and repairing a range of Electrical equipment and installations necessary for the provision of a safe, efficient and compliant service to Scarborough General Hospital and all its sites.

The post holder will report to the Electrical Services Manager on operational matters who will also act as apprenticeship coordinator and mentor.
