Summary
We are looking for an experienced and motivated and flexible Occupational Therapist to join our Stroke/Neuro rehabilitation team.
Initially, you will be based on ward 9 Stroke Rehabilitation at the Freeman Hospital, but you will also then be expected to be able to cover the Hyper Acute Stroke Unit and Neurosciences/Neurology at the RVI, when required, however training and supervision will be provided.
As well as using all of your core OT skills, this job centres on rehabilitation, which means that you are able to experienceof skills, such as;
• Using the Normal Movement Approach and physical rehabilitation
• Using and interpreting standardised cognitive and perceptual assessments and planning purposeful therapy to assist development of the patient’s skills.
• Group work
• Social integration within the hospital and the patient’s home
• Patient led Goal Planning and working closely with family and carers
• Educating the wider MDT regarding the patient’s specific difficulties..

• To carry a caseload of complex and highly complex patients within the specialty providing specialist therapy assessment and treatment, evidencing high level problem solving, reasoning skills and independence of judgement.
• To be an active member of the inter-disciplinary team to ensure a consistent, equitable and high quality evidence based service is developed to meet the needs of patients.
• To be responsible for own continued professional development and facilitate a learning culture within the team undertaking audit and practice development.
• To provide day to day supervision of junior and support staff and students working in the specialist area.
• To provide highly specialist knowledge within the Trust and externally to therapists and other health care professionals from secondary and primary care.
• To provide a high standard of occupational therapy care to complex and highly complex patients within a specialist area evidencing high level problem solving, reasoning skills and independence of judgement

• The specialist practitioner is the clinical lead for the Occupational Therapy Service within the area of practice providing highly specialist knowledge within the Trust and externally to therapists and other health care professionals from secondary and primary care
Within the neurological team there are many staff with years of knowledge to lead, develop and teach you all the skills that you require.
You will have considerable post-registration experience in the acute hospital setting, strong personal management and communication skills.
Excellent time management and organisational skills and the ability to work under pressure are also essential requirements of this post
