Summary

Company Description

Novai is a UK-based growing biotechnology start-up, commercialising an exciting and cutting-edge discovery in drug development. Our product is a novel diagnostic platform, combining a retinal biomarker with an AI algorithm to identify cellular level disease activity for the first time in humans. Our pioneering technology predicts disease progression and measures the impact of current and future therapeutics in glaucoma and Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD). Following the analysis of Phase II clinical research results, we believe our product may also be successful in identifying a number of neurodegenerative diseases including; Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s Disease and Multiple Sclerosis.

We have an exciting position available for an experienced senior data scientists, developing and validating new AI based systems.

Role & Responsibilities:

• Lead development of Novai algorithms and software with creativity, initiative and passion
• Assist in the development of the technical capacity of the team, maintain and promote good working practices and a positive culture.
• To provide novel input in terms of high-level ideas and the technical and practical implementation of these.
• To complete hands on and off design and development coding tasks.
• To help evaluate documentation and test technical systems.
• Write, edit and respond to technical reports.
• Liaise with customers and other non-technical members of the company.
• To attend conference and other training courses to maintain and develop skills and understanding.
• Regular travel to UK and team meetings within UK working hours.


Essential Skills

· OpenCV or another image analysis library
· Python – 3 years minimum
· Strong understanding of machine learning techniques and frameworks, and their real-world applications
· Experience with Deep learning/CNNs, Keras/TensorFlow/others, SVMs/Random Forests etc.
· Strong general and technical communication – communicate complex concepts to non-technical team members across the company, and to clients
· To be a self-starter and able to develop an initial concept through to validation and publication level data reports.
· Creative and research driven thinker, ability to solve complex problems using scientific methodology


Desirable Skills

· Medical Image Analysis
· SimpleITK
· Linux
· Healthcare domain knowledge
· Cloud computing – AWS, containerisation
· Robust, practical and proven knowledge of statistics
· Use of statistics packages such as SPSS/Prism


Education
• MSc Computer Science, Maths or Engineering, PhD Ideally
