Summary


An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Administration Assistant to support The Lighthouse, a service supporting Children and Young People who have experience sexual abuse, that is a part of the Paediatric and Adolescent Division at University College Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

This post offers the opportunity for the postholder to enhance their understanding of NHS services, develop their administrative skills and work in a unique service that offers support to children and young people.

The postholder will be a part of the administrative team at The Lighthouse and responsible for task including booking appointments, updating patient records, dealing with enquiries with patients, parents and external services, preparation of patient correspondence, a range of reception duties and other administrative tasks as required.

The postholder will be working closely with the Administration Coordinator to support all administrative requirements, as well as the liaising with the relevant clinical teams to ensure services are delivered effectively and safely. They will report into the Assistant General Manager and provide support to the management team.

The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills, be able to work effectively both as part of a team and independently and understand the importance of confidentiality and sensitivity necessary for the role. Prior NHS experience is desirable but not essential.



The post holder will work alongside the Administration Coordinator to lead and/or support on a range of administrative duties to support the running of The Lighthouse service.

They will:
• Support the smooth running of The Lighthouse through effective and organised administrative management.
• Be visible to support clinical and management teams in The Lighthouse office.
• Provide support to the Administration Coordinator, clinical and management teams at The Lighthouse to enable the service to run effectively.
• Greet patients and their families at the reception area, as well as assisting and updating them via telephone communication, where required.
• Deputise, where appropriate for Administration Coordinator in their absence, supported by the Assistant General Manager.

The individual must be a good team worker and be able to contribute to the successful running of the service by providing support to the clinical and management team at The Lighthouse. They will demonstrate excellent organisational skills and will be responsible for working independently, as well as alongside colleagues.

Some cross-cover of administrative tasks in other areas of the Paediatric and Adolescents Division may be required as part of this role.

The Lighthouse Model
The Lighthouse is the first UK Child House, a multi-professional, child centred and trauma informed service for CYP who have experienced child sexual abuse and a national leader in the field. The Lighthouse provides a holistic health assessment and medical support, emotional support and therapeutic interventions, advocacy and police interviews led by clinical psychologists. This child-centred concept has had proven success abroad, in particular Iceland, where there is evidence of increased convictions and improved health and well-being of the child/young person.

After a successful pilot, funded by the Home Office, NHS England, Mayor’s office for Police and crime (MOPAC) and Department for Education from 2018 - 2022, the Lighthouse secured recurrent statutory funding from April 2022. NHS England commission the service which is provided by University College London Hospitals (UCLH) in partnership with NSPCC and Metropolitan Police Service. CYP who live in the five boroughs in North Central London: Camden, Islington, Enfield, Haringey and Barnet can be referred or can self-refer to the service.

The Lighthouse Team
The service is jointly managed by the Lighthouse Operational Manager and the Clinical Lead. The Lighthouse service includes a CAMHS team of therapists (including Clinical Psychologists, Psychiatrist, CAMHS practitioners), Lived Experience Consultant, Paediatricians, Clinical Nurse Specialist for sexual health, Child and Family Practitioners, Play Specialist, and access to ‘Letting the Future In’ practitioners (NSPCC) in the Lighthouse.

Paediatric and Adolescent Division
The Lighthouse is part of The Paediatric and Adolescent Division. The Paediatric & Adolescent division, together with Women’s Health, Queen Square division, the Heart Hospital, the Eastman Dental Hospital and the Royal National Throat Nose and Ear hospital form the Specialist Hospitals Clinical Board.

The paediatric and adolescent division covers over 30 specialties and employs approximately 400 staff to deliver local, secondary, tertiary and quaternary care for children and young people. The specialities are organised into reporting units such as General Paediatrics and Adolescents, Children and Young People’s Cancer, Child and Adolescent Mental Health, Adolescent Endocrinology and Diabetes, Adolescent Medicine and a number of specialist services.
