Summary

The Group Risk Management team is a new function supporting the St George’s, Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals and Health Group, its constituent Trusts, and the three Sites with professional risk management advice and support in relation to the Group Board Assurance Framework, the two Trusts’ Corporate Risk Registers, and clinical and non-clinical risks across the Group. This is an exciting time to join the Group in this pivotal role as we build a new central risk management team, develop a new Group-wide approach to risk management, and seek to become an exemplar of good risk management practice within a hospital group.

The role requires an experienced, senior, highly qualified and competent professional with broad experience and a highly developed skill-set in risk management. The individual will be able to proactively negotiate and influence at senior levels within the organisation, linking closely to executive functions, senior management and staff in the provision of the Trust’s risk management agenda.

The Group Head of Risk Management is responsible for leading the newly established Group Risk Management function for GESH, promoting the principles of good risk management, and ensuring a new risk management strategy and policy is developed and embedded across the Group. The Group Head of Risk Management will lead in creating a culture and environment in which risk management is embedded at all levels to ensure the delivery of high quality, safe, patient-centred services. In this critical and high profile role, the Group Head of Risk Management will be a visible, accessible and authoritative leader on all risk management issues and, working with the Group Chief Corporate Affairs Officer, will lead on the preparation of risk reports to the Group Board, Board Committees, Executive and Site management teams. The post holder will ensure the effective governance of risk at all levels, promote effective risk management and embed structures and processes that contribute to this. The Group Head of Risk Management will support the Group Chief Corporate Affairs Officer, Group Chief Executive, Board and Non- Executive Directors on risk matters. The role will have significant input to the Trust’s strategic and business planning systems providing advice on all risk management aspects including risk appetite.

The St George’s, Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals and Health Group (GESH) is a recently-formed hospital group, comprising St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (SGUH) and Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust (ESTH), which includes Sutton Health and Care Partnership and Surrey Downs Health and Care Partnership. Sharing a single Chairman, Chief Executive and Executive team, the GESH Group is one of the largest healthcare providers in the country, with a combined annual turnover of around £1.7 billion, 16,000 staff, and serving a population of approximately 3.5 million people across South West London, Surrey, Sussex and beyond. The GESH Group provides a full range of local hospital services across its sites at St George’s Hospital in Tooting, Queen Mary Hospital in Roehampton, Epsom Hospital and St Helier Hospital, and provides a range of specialist services from St George’s.
