Summary

OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST ADULT ACUTE INPATIENT WARDS, SCARISBRICK UNIT, ORMSKIRK HOSPITAL, L39 2JW

We are seeking a dynamic occupational therapist to work in the Acute Adult Inpatient Unit at the Scarisbrick Unit within our team delivering care to service users who are experiencing mental health problems. The successful candidate will be working alongside senior occupational therapists and therapy assistants as part of providing an occupational perspective to a well-established multi-disciplinary team.

Within the remit of the Recovery Model you will provide occupational therapy assessment and intervention to service users with a range of complex mental health needs. Together you will devise individualised care plans which place recovery through occupation at the heart of the interventions provided. You will have an exciting opportunity to be part of developing a comprehensive group therapy programme as well as chance to cultivate professional skills through involvement in clinical and first line managerial processes.

The successful candidate will receive regular professional supervision from the Senior Occupational Therapist and line management will be via the Team Manager. Learning and development needs will be identified through the Personal Development Process and there will be a wide range of other learning opportunities available through local and Trust wide training and best practice forums.

Ormskirk, Scarisbrick In-Patient hospital is designed to meet the holistic needs of service users / patients and carers, in a working environment conducive to staff development and wellbeing. The post holder supports the delivery of Scarisbrick Inpatient Hospital Model through the provision of routine occupational therapy interventions in order to maintain, restore or create a match beneficial to the individual between the abilities of the person, the demands of his/her occupations in the areas of self care, productivity and leisure and the demands of the environment (adapted from Creek 2003). The post holder works alongside more senior experienced therapist(s) to consolidate and develop their skills, through regular contact and supervision from the senior therapist(s). There may be some contribution to the occupational therapy plans for people with complex needs but the post holder is not the responsible therapist in assessing and providing occupational therapy plans for people with very complex occupational needs.

After a period of preceptorship, and following approved training, the band 5 occupational therapist provides fieldwork placements for occupational therapy undergraduates. As confidence and experience grows, the therapist becomes increasingly responsible for the supervision of support staff, and for the delegation of occupational therapy tasks.
