Summary


An opportunity has arisen for a permanent full time Band 3 Outpatient Administrator within the Orthoptic and Optometry service at Queen's Medical Centre.

The post holder will be a key member of the admin team supporting the ophthalmology virtual clinic services and the orthoptic and optometry services. The postholder will take responsibility for: administrating the clinics for the diabetic, glaucoma and paediatric virtual clinics including maintaining the out-patient appointment waiting lists responding to, email referrals and queries, using judgement and initiative to schedule out-patient appointments in accordance with department requirements and in line with Trust waiting list targets, handling associated telephone calls and ensuring failsafe procedures are completed.

Close liaison with Managers within the Directorates, the diabetic eye screening programme, GP surgeries, patients, hospital administrative and clinical staff will be necessary in order to provide a prompt and quality patient focused service.

The successful candidate will play a crucial role in delivering a high-quality Outpatient service and should demonstrate excellent communication skills. A good telephone manner with the ability to show initiative in answering patient / staff queries is essential.

Experience of working in a busy NHS environment is essential along with excellent IT skills and good knowledge of hospital software, particularly Medway PAS and the Electronic Referral System, ERS. You will have a good command of the English language with the ability to accurately convey verbal and written information. You must be well motivated and reliable, with a 'can do' attitude. You must have experience of leading a team.

Due to the sensitivity of the role, you will need to be able to demonstrate a clear understanding of confidentiality issues.

The post holder will be required to work various shifts to support the needs of the service. This includes working weekdays, weekends, bank holiday days and varying hours with the earliest start time at 7.00am and the latest finish at 8.00pm. Initially the hours will include one late clinic per week and one Saturday per month. You are strongly urged to consider your suitability to meet the service requirements prior to applying for this post.

A desire to progress within the service in undertaking training or an apprenticeship related to the role is advantageous.
