Further information: A Personal Assistant (PA) is required to support a 10year old boy in the HU5 area of Hull.
He enjoys biking, skateboarding, scootering, going to the park or for an ice cream. He also loves lorries and likes to go out lorry spotting. Currently, due to his anxiety, he usually won't go out with other adults unless mum or dad are there, but this is something the family hope to build up to him being able to do. Local parks/skateparks or scootering/biking round the block would be outings we hope he could engage in with a PA. Possibly lorry spotting, depending on circumstances.
The PA will be required to work flexibly to assist and support this boy to access social activities in the local community and to increase his independence skills.
Keeping him engaged in his interests and often just having 1 to 1 adult attention helps to keep him calm. He will need support to keep his emotions and behaviour in check and to keep himself safe. If his emotions begin to get the better of him, his behaviour may be challenging, but his parents will guide the successful applicant in how to approach this behaviour.
The PA will need to be patient and understanding of this boy’s needs. Experience of working with looked after/previously looked after children and knowledge/experience of attachment difficulties, developmental trauma, FASD, PDA/ASD, ADHD, would be useful, but is not essential.
A car driver with access to their own transport would be preferred.
The successful applicant will be prepared to have a DBS check.
“Owing to the nature of this position, any offer of employment will be subject to a satisfactory checking report from the Disclosure and Barring Service, the cost of which will be met by the local authority/employer.”
