Summary


The post holder will
• Assist the multi-professional team in the provision of high quality, effective and compassionate family-centred maternity service; to ensure optimal care for women, their babies and their families.
• Provide support and education to Maternity Support Workers, from initial recruitment, during induction and ongoing development.
• Be a role model in high standards of clinical practice and leadership; ensuring that maternity support workers also provide a high standard of practice which is based on current evidence, guidelines and policies.
• Assist in the implementation of new guidelines and initiatives from both local and national requirements across all areas of maternity services.
• Be flexible in meeting the needs of the service and when required, supporting midwives and the wider team in providing direct clinical care to women and babies.
• Have a visible presence in the clinical environment and provide one to one support and education for the maternity support workers.

• Actively engage with public health initiatives. Including being competent in the collection of red blood spot sample for new-born screening competent to support women in their chosen method of feeding giving clear and consistent information on infant feeding and following and revising feeding plans as appropriate notice and respond appropriately to the changing needs of the woman and her family. Being able to undertake agreed risk identification and assessment activity, within scope of role, in accordance with local and national safeguarding pathways escalating any concerns to the midwife in charge immediately
• Recognise and respect equality and diversity, demonstrating an inclusive approach in all environments.
• Work within organisational policies and procedures to ensure maintenance of safe working practices for women, their families and colleagues.
