Summary
As part of the clinical team, under the leadership of senior nurse specialists, you will be assisting in the delivery and administration of rheumatology and osteoporosis drug therapies in our busy and diverse outpatient clinics.
In addition, you will be performing some administrative duties as required, facilitating the smooth running of the biologic service.
1. To provide effective, evidence based general and specialised care for patients on the Rheumatology unit under the indirect or remote supervision of registered practitioners.
2. To take charge of the busy Rheumatology daycase unit and work as part of the team or autonomously in outpatient clinics.
3. To assist in the general running of the Biologic clinics alongside the biologics nurse.
4. Administer, provide nursing care and monitor patients during drug infusions and to manage and report any adverse effects.
5. To plan, organise and deliver clinical care as agreed with the supervising practitioner, in line with clinical governance and within agreed professional standards, guidelines and following local policies, protocols and procedures.
6. Assist at times in organising and ordering community and outpatient biologic prescriptions with biologic drug providers and Trust pharmacy.
7. To use personal efficiency and knowledge to contribute to the development and delivery of a quality service.
8. To ensure a high standard of care for all patients by effective communication with patients, carers, and the wider health care team.
9. To participate in clinical supervision and training, this may include supervision and teaching of junior staff as part of the staff nurse role.
10. To work proactively as a member of the multi-disciplinary and multi professional health care team, with support of registered practitioners.
11. To be flexible as the post holder may work in different clinical areas across the trust.
The Trust serves a population of approximately 440,000 residents across Blackpool, Fylde, Wyre, Lancashire and South Cumbria and the North of England. It comprises Blackpool Victoria Hospital which is a large busy acute hospital and two smaller community hospitals – Clifton Hospital and Fleetwood Hospital and the National Artificial Eye Service. The Trust is also responsible for the provision of Community services such as District Nursing and Midwifery to a large geographical area, extending from Lytham St Annes in the South to Morecambe and Carnforth in the North. The Trust provides Tertiary haematology services for Lancashire and South Cumbria and is the site of the Lancashire Cardiac Centre which provides comprehensive cardiology and cardiothoracic surgical services for the adult population of Lancashire and South Cumbria (around 1.6 million people).

11. Undertake a range of procedures relevant to clinical sphere of responsibility. These may include (but are not wholly inclusive of) venepuncture, cannulation.
