Summary

Domestic and Sexual Abuse Support Worker | Covering Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland | Full Time and Part Time | £12.37 per hour - £13.46 per hour

Our client is a domestic abuse and sexual violence charity, with a range of roles available across its service in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.

The employer is looking for qualified and unqualified workers. For qualified roles, there is an option to start the role as a trainee while completing the qualification.

There are multiple posts covering either Leicester City and/or Leicestershire County. Posts covering the County require the post holder to have a driving licence and access to a vehicle for work purposes.

Are you the right person for the job?

While no specific formal qualifications are considered essential for this post, it does require a range of skills, knowledge, and experience appropriate to the job.

The following are considered to be essential for the role:

• At least two years’ experience of supporting adults in a sexual violence service
• A basic empathy with people who have experienced sexual abuse
• The Independent Domestic Violence Advisor (IDVA) qualification or equivalent for the qualified post; or three years’ experience of working in a paid or unpaid capacity with a relevant support, information and advice service for the trainee post
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• An ability to work under some pressure, and to manage a varied workload effectively whilst adhering to organizational policies and procedures
• Willingness to work flexibly in response to the needs of clients, colleagues and organisational aims
• Experience of maintaining procedures relating to record keeping and data collection
• A methodical and patient approach to work tasks
• An ability to use your own initiative and to make appropriate decisions with minimal supervision, within boundaries set by policies and procedures
• An ability to work to appropriate levels of confidentiality
• An ability to establish and maintain good relationships with a wide variety of people
• An understanding of the need to work collaboratively with others – Directors, staff, volunteers, colleagues from external organisations, and, most importantly, with service users and members of the public
• An ability to represent the project, by attending external meetings and contributing to discussions
• Commitment to equal opportunities practice
• A good knowledge of the structures operating in the statutory and voluntary service sectors

What will your role look like?

Your role will include, but not be limited to:

• Provide proactive support and advice to adult victims of sexual violence and abuse across Leicester, Leicestershire, and Rutland, including historic cases
• Collaborate with multiple agencies to offer emotional support, advocacy, and case management to victims and survivors
• Ensure client safety remains paramount by following established procedures and protocols
• Support victims referred to/from the Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC) and individuals involved in sex work
• Maintain accurate client records, conduct risk assessments, and facilitate referrals to other agencies
• Engage with voluntary sector agencies and specialist services to enhance support provision
• Offer emotional and practical support, advocacy, and information on legal options to service users
• Assist clients in making informed decisions about their future and accessing relevant services
• Maintain confidentiality and contribute to statistical data collection and reporting
• Collaborate within a multi-agency setting to ensure holistic support and safety for clients
• Attend meetings, conferences, and forums to represent the organization as required
• Adhere to organisational policies and procedures and contribute to service development
• Stay informed about domestic abuse issues and relevant legislation through ongoing training and awareness
• Fulfil other duties as necessary to support the organisation's objectives
