Summary
Occupational Therapy Clinical Lead – Band 7 (22.5 hours per week)
We are inviting an experienced Mental Health Occupational Therapist to lead our Occupational Therapy service within the Crisis Home Treatment Teams (CRHT) across Mid and South Essex.
Occupational Therapists work as an integral part of the CRHT providing specialist bio-psycho-social interventions. The role of OT continues to develop within our crisis teams and we are keen to promote the unique contribution that OT can bring to urgent care services.

The post holder will lead on the provision and delivery of Occupational Therapy interventions within the Crisis Home Treatment Teams (CRHT) across Mid and South Essex.
You will work as a senior member of the multidisciplinary clinical team responsible for the assessment and provision of specialist bio-psycho-social interventions of service users with serious mental illness (SMI).
The post holder will lead alongside other senior colleagues in the continuing development and delivery of a high quality service that is underpinned by evidence based practice and care pathways / packages and NICE and DH guidance, providing day to day professional and clinical leadership, evaluation and monitoring across the service delivery pathway.
You will be expected to work collaboratively with key partner organisations, service users, carers, clinicians and other practitioners within the multi-disciplinary team in delivering services; providing a 7-day a week, 24-hours a day service for 365 days a year working shifts where appropriate and operationally required.

Clinical Duties:
1. Conduct/contribute to the assessment process providing accurate and timely specialist advice and guidance relating to functional ability to service users, carers and other professionals
2. Evaluate, formulate deliver and review treatment, taking into account evidence base, theoretical and therapeutic models, establishing a plan of care to support recovery across the localities
3. To utilise specialist assessments when presented with complex cases
4. Deliver a variety of specialised treatment modalities to meet the needs of service users in individual or group format, utilising clinical reasoning processes
5. Manage and oversee care of service users with highly complex needs
6. Conduct risk assessments and identify potential hazards with respect to the individual and their environment
7. Provide practical support, advice and education to OT staff, service users, carers and other disciplines
8. Responsible for the recording of all patient related activity information onto Paris Remedy
9. Produce accurate and timely documentation records on all service users in line with RCOT Code of Conduct and Trust policies
10. Attend, and where relevant, facilitate multi-disciplinary meetings, i.e. referral / review providing specialist professional advice and recommendations
11. To make clinically informed decisions in order to delegate aspects of client care to assistants, junior staff, students, carers and statutory or non-statutory bodies
Non-Clinical Function
1. Act as team lead planning and co-ordinating specialist Occupational Therapy intervention within the localities, continuing to develop and deliver a high quality service that is underpinned by evidence based practice, care pathways and NICE and DH guidance
2. Liaise with the Head OT and Clinical Managers around the daily delivery of service
3. Report and document incidents as required
4. Work in conjunction with the Occupational Therapy Service to deliver AHP strategy within the Trust
5. In conjunction with the Head OT and Clinical Managers, take a lead role in clinical service development and review , leading on projects to meet identified service need
6. Responsible for and lead on induction of staff, manage preceptorship process and fieldwork education of students
7. Identify aspects of the service which need to be improved and implement appropriate changes in conjunction with the Head OT and Clinical Managers
8. Provide clinical leadership and expertise to the team – promoting the roles and skills of Occupational Therapy to other professionals, students, service users and carers
9. Deliver training where appropriate for own and other professionals
10. Manage the OT capability processes as necessary
11. Through the implementation of performance management ensure that all key performance indicators and targets identified by the Trust are met and adhere to local and government initiatives
12. Responsible for the coordination and management of the team in providing a safe, effective and therapeutic clinical service, ensuring the delivery of high quality community mental health care packages
Employee Management:
1. Collaborate with the Head OT for the recruitment of employee’s in accordance with Trust Recruitment Policy and NHS Safer Recruitment Guidelines. Ensuring that appropriate Corporate and Departmental Induction is undertaken immediately following appointment and that staff records they retain are accurate and up-to-date.
2. Responsible for the safe and effective deployment of employees, ensuring they have the required skills, knowledge and training for their role. This includes ensuring they receive appropriate supervision, have an annual appraisal and that their own and their employees’ mandatory training is up-to-date.
3. Support the Head OT with the management of sickness absence, disciplinary, capability and other workforce procedures and policies, seeking advice from the Trust’s Human Resources Department when appropriate.
