Senior Sister/Charge Nurse Adult Critical Care Unit, St Bartholomew’s Hospital

Substantive Full time (37.5 hours/week)

We are recruiting for an experienced Critical Care Nurse to join our dedicated team as a band 7 Senior Sister/Charge Nurse in our world class High Dependency Unit at St Bartholomew’s Hospital. We care for patients following complex cardiac, aortovascular, thoracic surgery, complex cardiology and general surgery, with one of the busiest Heart Attack Centres in Europe, ECMO and Oncology patients within our ACCU specialist centre. We have 13 level 2 critical care beds

The Senior Sister/Charge Nurse plays a pivotal role in managing clinical areas, overseeing care assessments, developing care plans, and evaluating and setting care standards on shift.

This position carries responsibility for immediate management of critically ill patients within the High Dependency Unit (HDU) while collaborating with the multidisciplinary team to ensure optimal patient care.

The post holder is tasked with maintaining continuity and elevating care standards through effective communication, sharing of ideas, and empowerment of both patients and team members. Additionally, this role requires meticulous record-keeping in accordance with relevant trust local and NHS national legislation, policies, and procedures.

Supporting the matron in service development and providing motivation and support to the team are integral aspects of this position, alongside leading by example as an expert practitioner. The Post holder also holds managerial and line management responsibilities for a dedicated team within the HDU.
