Summary


This position provides an exciting opportunity to support the vitreo-retinal (VR) /corneal team and further your experience, skills, and knowledge. The VR/Corneal specialist nurse role is multifaceted providing insight into several areas of nursing support and care. Patients with vitreo-retinal and corneal related issues sometimes have complex issues that require them to support physical and mental health care needs.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and capable individual who will embrace the role and help to provide support for this broad patient group. In return the successful individual may have opportunities to expand their knowledge and skills within this area and gain an appreciation of the specialist nurse role.

The VR/Corneal specialist nurse role will be a joint position which will largely encompass the needs of the vitreo-retinal service but will require involvement two sessions per week supporting the corneal service.

The role will be the lead in patient liaison, patient education, and preoperative and postoperative counselling in relation to Vitreoretinal/Corneal conditions including cross linking etc.

They will utilise clinical examination skills to monitor clinical conditions e.g., slit lamp/other examination of the eye, applanation tonometry, biometry, plus any other test or examinations that may be deemed necessary.

The VR/Corneal specialist nurse will work within the vitreoretinal/corneal and MDT to manage patient groups across the city MFT sites.
