Summary


We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic consultant to join our team of Neonatologists at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust. The successful candidate would work on the tertiary neonatal intensive care units of the Nottingham Neonatal Service and with the CenTre neonatal transport team. For the NICU, the successful candidate would join the team of 20 neonatologists in providing day time Consultant leadership for the two tertiary neonatal units, the transitional care and for the babies on the postnatal wards. For the CenTre Neonatal Transport service, the successful candidate would join the team of Neonatal Transport Consultants providing consultant delivered neonatal transport from a dedicated transport hub in Castle Donington. The on call responsibility would be shared between the Neonatal Intensive Care Units and the CenTre Neonatal Transport service.

The appointee will have appropriate experience in neonatology and will either have a CCST/CCT in Paediatrics (Neonatal Medicine) or be within 6 months of CCT or equivalent.

The position is full time or maximum part-time; part-time applicants will be considered.

The Nottingham Neonatal Service serves well over 10,000 Nottingham births per year. It also provides the regional services to the northern part of East Midlands Operational Delivery Network (EM-ODN) comprising of 23,000 deliveries per year plus tertiary work from a total of around 32,000 births. The service admits over 1400 babies per year providing over 3500 intensive care days.

The Service provides the regional neonatal surgical and tertiary medical neonatal intensive care services.

Our two well-equipped and developed Neonatal Units have state of the art equipment, including integrated clinical monitoring, high frequency oscillation, inhaled nitric oxide and portable ultrasound. The Service is well supported by pharmacy, dietetics, physiotherapy, paediatric radiology and neuro-radiology services and has access to the full range of paediatric specialist opinion through the Nottingham Children’s Hospital.

The neonatal service provides consultant-led clinical care. This means involvement in a high proportion of clinical decision making, particularly during intensive care episodes.

Responsibilities include:
• Diagnosis, treatment, management and continuing care of all newborn infants born in Nottingham or referred to the Nottingham tertiary Neonatal Service
• Provision of Clinical Leadership
• Ensuring high quality communication with the parents and families
• Ensuring high quality communication with the multidisciplinary teams
• Active involvement in the Clinical Governance and Management activity that supports the servic
• Teaching, training, supervising and assessing neonatal staff and students.
• Knowledge of and adherence to Child Protection and Safeguarding guidelines for practice within the trust
• Improvement of the quality and safety of the service
• Direct patient care during transport
