Summary

Huntingdonshire District Council (HDC) is passionate about providing high-quality services to our communities, residents and businesses. This means we must employ and retain the most talented and dedicated people.

Situated within the heart of the Cambridge-Peterborough Growth Area, Huntingdonshire is a beautiful district that boasts thriving market towns and many attractive villages, each with its own identity. We are an innovative and forward-thinking local authority whose residents are at the heart of our decision-making.

At HDC we want to employ staff who embody our icare values (Inspiring, Collaborative, Accountable, Respectful, Enterprising), all of which support our ultimate purpose of putting our customers first.

Job details
We are searching for our next Director of Finance and Corporate Resources.

This is a highly visible leadership role within and outside the council. While you will inevitably be very focused on our financial planning, management and controls, there is much more to the role.

You will be responsible for a full portfolio of corporate resources, which includes Finance, HR, Internal Audit, Risk and Controls; Facilities Management, Democratic Services; and Commercial Estates (this is currently subject to review).

You can expect to be continually involved in the strategic growth agenda, recognising the fiscal importance of attracting new investment to the district, alongside the economic benefits it delivers for our residents.

You will also play a key role in developing the organisation's approach to risk, and how this is assessed and managed as a core part of project and programme management. Key to this will be ensuring robust governance and accountability arrangements underpin our work.

Your commercial skills will be fully utilised as we review our commercial strategy to ensure that we are making good investments and making a positive return on existing assets.

You'll advise on the viability of 'invest to save' programmes, ensuring a long-term perspective supports well-informed decision-making. You can expect to take the lead on a review of current ways of working to identify opportunities to enhance what we do, making the best use of people, technology and different service models to deliver great services to customers, as well as value for money.

This opportunity will suit someone with a well-informed understanding of the local government sector, alongside proven financial management expertise that includes an accountancy qualification.

Your experience to date should have equipped you with a keen commercial awareness that is tailored to suit a public sector setting, and an excellent appreciation of operating within a political environment. You'll need excellent people and resource management skills, enabling you to get the best from those around you so that you can empower, develop and retain great staff.

An offer of employment is conditional upon having the right to work in the UK. Huntingdonshire District Council does not hold a Sponsorship Licence and is unable to provide a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) or take over Sponsorship for any role.

Apply
We have engaged Solace in Business to support us in making this important appointment, find out more about the role and apply.

The closing date is 9am 7 May 2024
For many of our roles (and where it is possible) we are currently working remotely and anticipate in the future returning to a hybrid office model on a flexible basis. This will still include work-from-home and flexi-time opportunities in order to provide a good work-life balance whilst still ensuring that teams benefit from in-person interaction. Candidates should therefore be within commutable distance of our offices in Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire or able to attend meetings as required if further afield.

Should you have any additional questions regarding submitting an application, please contact the Recruitment Team at recruitment@huntingdonshire.gov.uk.

Please note that the official closing date is as above, and will be the correct date. Some third-party websites may have different dates. Please refer to the HDC website for the official closing date to ensure you do not miss out on applying.
