Summary


Provide Healthcare Support Worker for the community Bladder and Bowel Specialist Team.



We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic individual, who is interested in joining a dynamic team. The role is challenging and rewarding, with emphasis on providing care to those with bladder and bowel issues. The successful applicant will be given appropriate training and support, so although previous experience of working in a healthcare setting is desirable, it is not essential.



Bladder and bowel issues can be distressing and difficult to talk about, therefore we are looking for someone with good interpersonal skills and excellent communication skills. You should be able to work within a team, and be flexible, as the work entails both office based and visiting patients in the community.

An Adult Bladder and Bowel Health Care Support Worker specialises in caring for patients with bladder or bowel issues. They assist the Bladder and Bowel Nurses in providing a comprehensive service to those identified with a bladder or bowel problem.

They support the work of the Adult Bladder and Bowel Specialist Team in assessing and reassessing the continence needs of patients. They would be involved in helping patients manage bladder and bowel disfunction, including, but not limited to, advice to improve continence issues, identification of appropriate containment products for patients with continence issues, bladder scanning, urinalysis and advice on skin care products.

Eligible for NHS Pension

Clinical activity.
1. Assess, re-assess patients with bladder or/and bowel issues, assess the need for containment products from the NHS, as delegated by Bladder and Bowel Specialist Nurses.
2. Identify where appliances may assist the patient with bladder/bowel issues
3. Provide support for patients and carers.
4. Be competent in undertaking urinalysis, and obtaining urine specimens.
5. Assist/advise in the completion of bladder and bowel diaries.
6. Communicates very sensitive condition related information to patients and relatives with empathy and reassurance.
7. Record patient interactions and interventions on the IT system used by Provide CIC (currently Systm1) and update them as needed.
8. Recommend appropriate products as agreed.
9. To deal as appropriate with unpleasant conditions such as exposure to body fluids.
10. Perform Bladderscan for assessment of residual urine (once competency is achieved)
11. Undertake drainage of residual urine (female patients) (once competency is achieved)
12. Undertake uncomplicated catheterisation, as delegated by specialist nurse (once competency is achieved)
13. Provide emotional care for patients within your specialist sphere of work.
14. In the course of your clinical work provide appropriate help to patients who require physical assistance.
15. Organises own workload in conjunction with team and organisational requirements.
16. Use a computer tablet remotely for all patient records.
17. Record data and evidence of activity as requested via Systm One
18. Provide teaching informally on a one to one basis to patients/carers

2. Interact within the Integrated Bladder and Bowel Service.
3. Be responsible for your own professional actions.
