Summary


An exciting opportunity has arisen for a technologically minded AHP to join the Digital Programme Team on a fixed term basis at the Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust. This role will support the Digital Programme Team through implementation of for an exciting new Digital Transformation Project for replacement of the Patient Administration System and implementation of Electronic Medical Record.

The post holder will perform a key role in the implementation for the Trusts Digital Programme, providing clinical leadership by identifying system usage and promoting the Programme via effective communication and ensuring a conduit exists between the Programme and the operational teams.

You will be the ‘go to’ person ensuring that the system design meets the requirements and achieves its key goal of improving productivity, sharing of information and improving patient outcomes.

The right individual will provide direction to the project analysis of current processes, potential process improvements, documentation of ‘to be’ processes, coordinate User Acceptance Testing, and support system training across the Trust. There will be opportunity for the candidate to be innovative and identify opportunities to develop ensuring that we improve the overall digital maturity of the Trust and whilst standards of clinical safety are maintained throughout.

This post will work alongside a team of Digital clinicians to plan and co-ordinate the wider EMR implementation across all clinical and non-clinical areas for the Royal Wolverhampton Trust, including Doctors, Nursing, AHPs, and administrative teams.

The digital AHP will develop and demonstrate a specialist knowledge of the system and clinical pathways championing and developing the use of the system.

The role will:

Support the project team in analysing further implementation across different inpatient areas e.g. medical, surgical, paediatrics, maternity, and specialist referral teams, and use of the system at different times e.g. night shifts, weekend working.

Work with the wards, specialties, and services to identify best use of the system and jointly plan for implementation and cutover from existing paper-based ways of working.

Create process documentation related to the use of the system and appropriate practices across all Inpatient areas whilst continuing to review and incorporate best practice.

Test the EMR system in line with documented processes and procedures in conjunction with the wider project team.

Support development and verification of training strategy and materials to provide online resources for clinical staff.

Provide training and support to clinical staff in the adoption and use of EMR in clinical areas.

Lead the collection of data related to clinical staff, usage, and referral teams.

Actively promote safe and reliable healthcare.

Responsibilities

Work with the Digital clinicians to ensure that a critical mass of staff are trained to the required level in the use of the system on each ward

Support the development of ‘Super Users’ on each ward who can be key users of the system

Support the clinical staff when each ward goes ‘paperless’. Assist in the resolution of any issues in a timely and accurate manner

In conjunction with the Digital team and the supplier respond to questions in relation to the use of the system in the clinical areas

Utilise and ensure others can utilise clinical data/information to secure accurate and timely patient care

Effectively communicate information regarding the clinical data and policy with clinicians and healthcare staff

Manage expected and unexpected clinical data events and ensure timely and appropriate solutions

Responsible for identifying and communicating the linkages between improved communication, improving clinical efficiencies and effectiveness with good use of the system

Maintain a current knowledge of practices related to clinical communications and role specific training

Provide information to the EPR Steering Group as necessary.

Demonstrate a current knowledge of clinical record keeping and clinical communication practices through the delivery of clinical care and maintenance of a safe environment in accordance with practices and policies

Challenge clinical communication practices, reporting breaches using relevant Trust policies as appropriate (e.g. incident reporting policy)

Responsible for training additional nurse training staff

Responsible for ensuring healthcare staff have the skills to record and update handovers and patient records using relevant technology

Develop and educate healthcare staff through the development of training materials and delivery of training

Remain professionally updated in all aspects of the role, specifically in line with national and international standards

Occasional out of hours/weekend working to support training of staff on different shifts, cutover, and further support for embedding practice

Support of system implementation/upgrades may require some out of hours work

Where appropriate, travel to attend national events dependant on business/project needs

Use computer software to produce reports, spreadsheets and documents

Take an analytical approach on information received and act on findings

Develop communication, measurement and reporting systems in relation to EPR usage and uptake

Any other tasks or duties commensurate with the position as agreed

Resource Management

Assist the in supporting staff using EPR and analysing the clinical data

Support the monitoring the project budget, ensuring that resources are used appropriately, and to ensure appropriate levels of stock are in place for the project needs

Abide by the NHS Code of Conduct for managers, the Trust’s values and behaviours for staff and managers and all other Trust policies including standing financial instructions, research governance, clinical governance, patient and public involvement, codes and practices and health and safety policies.

Governance

Assist in the implementation of clinical and ICT policies and procedures relating to the EMR System

Contribute towards the Trust’s action planning process to ensure compliance with Information Governance requirements, being aware of policies and procedures as required, reporting any breaches of ICT confidentiality and security as required

Attend mandatory/statutory training as identified in Trust policy

Communication

Maintain appropriate communication links between clinical teams, Steering Group, other relevant healthcare staff and IT Technical Implementation and Support Teams.

Ability to analyse information presented by users, identity requirements or problems then make recommendations to the Project Manager/Digital Matron or seek resolution with Technical Services.

Maintain personal and professional development to meet the changing demands of the job, participate in appropriate training activities and support staff development and training
