Summary

We are looking to recruit a EYFS teaching assistant to join the team. The nature of the role is to work under the direct instruction of teaching/senior staff, usually in the classroom with the teacher, to support access to learning for pupils and provide general support to the teacher in the management of pupils and the classroom.

What will the apprentice be doing?
Support for Pupils:
- Attending to the pupils’ personal needs, and implementing related personal
programmes, including social, health, physical, hygiene, and first aid and welfare
matters, as appropriate.
- Supervising and supporting pupils ensuring their safety and access to learning.
- Establishing constructive relationships with pupils, acting as a role model and
being aware of and responding appropriately to individual needs.
- Developing a good knowledge of pupil’s individual special educational needs and
implementing appropriate strategies as outlined in the students’ profile.
- Promoting the inclusion and acceptance of all pupils.
- Encouraging pupils to interact with others and engage in activities led by the
teacher.
- Encouraging pupils to act independently as appropriate.
- Providing pastoral support for pupils as directed by the tutor or House staff.

Support for Teacher:
- Preparing the classroom as directed for lessons and clearing away afterwards
and assisting with the display of pupils’ work.
- Being aware of pupil problems/progress/achievements and reporting to the
teacher as agreed.
- Undertaking pupil record keeping as requested.
- Supporting the teacher in managing pupil behaviour, reporting difficulties as
appropriate.
- Gathering/reporting information from/to parents/carers as directed.
- Providing clerical/admin support for learning e.g. photocopying, word processing,
filing, data entry etc.
- Supporting pupils to develop basic literacy and numeracy skills as directed by the
teacher.
- Supporting the role of the tutor, including mentoring individual or small groups of
students as directed by the tutor or House staff.

Support for the Curriculum:
- Supporting pupils to understand instructions.
- Supporting pupils in respect of local and national learning strategies as directed
by the teacher.
- Supporting pupils in accessing and developing basic ICT skills.
- Preparing and maintaining equipment/resources as directed by the teacher and
assisting pupils in their use.

Support for the School:
- Being aware of and complying with policies and procedures relating to child
protection, health, safety and security, confidentiality and data protection,
reporting all concerns to an appropriate person.
- Being aware of and supporting difference and ensuring all pupils have equal
access to opportunities to learn and develop.
- Contributing to the overall ethos/work/aims of the school.
- Appreciating and supporting the role of other professionals.
- Attending relevant meetings as required including termly afterschool department
meetings.
- Participating in critical self-reflection through the performance management
process for TA’s and participating in training and development opportunities as
required.
- Assisting with the supervision of pupils out of lesson times, including before and
after school and at lunchtimes.
- Accompanying teaching staff and pupils on visits, trips and out of school activities
as required.
- Working constructively as part of a team, understanding classroom roles and
responsibilities and your own position within these.
- Contributing to pupil reviews by reporting on pupil progress as directed.
- Undertaking other relevant duties allocated at the discretion of the classroom
teacher, SENCO, Headteacher or other designated supervisor.

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
- Level 3 Teaching Assistant.
- Functional Skills in English and maths Level 2 if required.
- End Point Assessment: Practical workplace observation; Q&A session;
Professional Discussion.
