Weight Management Project Officer -Part-time 16 hours per week

(Engaging with the Latin American Community)

SO2: Starting salary £40,005 pro rata per annum Including London Weighting

Fixed Term Contract until 31st March 2025, possibility of continuation subject to further funding

About the Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Sports and Health Development team for a part-time Project Officer to coordinate a pilot Tier 2 Adult weight management programme for Latin American adults.

One of the largest Latin American communities in the UK resides in Lambeth. However, studies from focus groups and surveys have shown that many of the participants had encountered challenges gaining access to healthcare, mostly because of linguistic and cultural barriers.

Therefore, to reduce the inequality in health, Lambeth is working with partners to co-create and offer a Tier 2, evidence-based weight management programme for its adult Latin American community. To create a service that is both accessible and appropriate for Latin American culture, it will be co-designed with the community.

Join our Lambeth team and help our Latin American community improve their health and well-being.

The post-holder will be expected to:

  • Speak Spanish or Portuguese fluently.
  • Plan, deliver and manage programmes, initiatives, and events in line with pre agreed key performance indicators and budget.
  • Deliver suitable weekly nutrition workshops for Latin American groups to improve their health and well-being by using behavioural change techniques to encourage healthy eating and increase physical activity levels.
  • Generate referrals from health professionals, local partners and local community and voluntary groups.
  • Respond and follow up on customer or stakeholder enquiries or requests for information effectively and efficiently, resolving any issues in line with the Lambeth code of conduct.
  • Promote the physical activity initiatives developed within the local community by using a variety of communication methods in line with the corporate communication strategy for Lambeth.
  • Maintain high standards of monitoring and evaluation, ensuring that impact is central to everything that we do.
  • Ensure continuous improvement of programme format and service standards.
  • Take responsibility, relevant to the post, for ensuring that Council statutes and government legislation is upheld. This includes, amongst others: Management Compliance Charter, Environmental Policy, Data Protection Act, Race Equality Action Plan, Quality Assurance Plan, Health & Safety, Sustainable Construction and Recycling.

You are likely to have experience coordinating and developing long-term lifestyle intervention programmes, as well as a thorough understanding of health-related strategies that reduce adult obesity (from a local to global perspective). In return you will have the opportunity to contribute to the reduction of health disparities within the borough and collaborate with others who are committed to achieving the goal of equitable health care for all.
